Lovely
Not sure what you mean by "medium voice" but it sounds lovely to me, and your simple playing sets off that voice and makes the whole an intimate experience. I'm not fond of overtly religious (proselytizing) music but spirituals somehow reach deep into my psyche. Thanks, and may 2017 be yours.

Richard, medium voice is mid-range
...such as baritone which is my tessitura (i.e. my comfortable singing range). Many of the arrangements I found for Deep River are way too high for me, so I transposed to key of C. Someone who sang it lower than this was Paul Robeson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qXBG5BRT3c

Thanks, Jimmy.
Glad it lifted your day a bit. I was a bit tired when I recorded this. But it felt like the right moment. I had never sung it before, so I spent some time trying to find a suitable arrangement online. There are a few different chorus melodies that have evolved over the years for this song. I finally found the version I liked – in a 1957 songbook called The Family Music Book. published by Grosset & Dunlap / G. Schirmer. However, I had to transpose from G down to C to suit my voice.

Deep River
Warm version of the song. I was expecting you to move into a stricter rhythm with the guitar at sone stage, but the song is short enough such that maybe that isn't necessary. Anyway, I enjoyed listening!

I'll take that as a suggestion!
Yes, this trial balloon is too short. It does beg for an upshift. I was thinking about tagging onto it a modern adaptation called Shallow River. I see so many people leading shallow lives where all that matters is making the rounds at bars and attending pro sports events.

Deep River
Lovely vignette. Your voice suits this iconic song perfectly in C. Rich and effortless. Thanks, Richard.
