Description
I wondered what was happening at the MJ in 2017 and dropped by for a visit. I saw something about a "Redux" in the forums which I felt would be very cool indeed. That prompted me to 'reunite' for the new year with a song that's been sitting around for a month or two. A sort of starting over and in the style of one of my very first posts here. So happy Redux!!! Hope more "oldtimers" show up...and with new songs! No MJ superstars on this one, just me.

ME: bass, synth, vocals, acoustic gt, elec gt and that super awesome, complex lead.
ME programming:
AD2 drums
Sampletank3-piano, celli
SampleTron-mellotrons
Xils Lab-Synth and another of my super awesome, complex leads.

Love to all for the new year.

Lyrics
Tainted Man Inc.
Sam Dixon 2017

(Are you going too far?}
There was a time when I
turned away from me.
(Do you know who you are?)
No, I haven't really thought...
But how does it feel to be you?

And everything I feel
I have to make it real

Automatic, made to habit
Hard to be so diplomatic
Easy guess to know I've had it
(Try to not take it to heart)
Temporary, solitary
Think of it discinplanary
Not sure if I could say I'm ready
(Try to not take it so hard)

I don't wanna be no
Tainted man incorporated

Educated, compensated
Promise you it's all related
Consciously reciprocated
(Let me know when you're aware)
Try to be so democratic
Never try to come in last
A pain you'd call sacrociatic
(Tell me when you start to care)

Tainted man incoporated

(Do you know where you are?)
Somewhere alone and I
don't know what to do
(Is it really that hard?)
Let me think a while...
No, I haven't a clue

And everything I feel
I have to make it real

Automatic, made to habit
Hard to be so diplomatic
Easy guess to know I've had it
(Try to not take it to heart)
Temporary, solitary
Think of it discinplanary
Not sure if I could say I'm ready
(How does it feel to you lifted up from the ground?)

I don't wanna be no
Tainted man incorporated

Educated, compensated
Promise you it's all related
Consciously reciprocated
Not what I anticipated

(Love...your...self)
(How does it feel to you lifted up from the ground?)

Try to be so democraticr
Never try to come in last
A pain you'd call sacrociatic

(Love...your...self)
(How does it feel to you lifted up from the ground?)

Automatic, made to habit
Hard to be so diplomatic
Easy guess to know I've had it

(Love...your...self)
(How does it feel to you lifted up from the ground?)

This was
one of those songs that just sat around until I got off my butt and finally finished it. Wish you were around a few months ago, I had a song I thought you'd be perfect for.
Thanks man.

The vest
satin suits too! This sat around so long because I couldn't come up with any melodies, then one day I was determined to get this completed and said, 'screw the critic', and just sang what came out.
Thanks for listening, Vic.

When I got SampleTron, I *had* to write a song to use it on and this turned out to be it. Definitely hear the BF reference in some of the harmonies. Glad you dropped by.

Woo-ooo! Sammy's back
and sounding like his old self. Fun lyrics (in the rhyming and scansion) and trademark harmonies. This "old timer" is glad to say Welcome Home, bro.

Hope
more come back for a revitalization. I think it would be a shame to see MJ stagnate and fall. It's really a great music site with some "depth." Appreciate it Rich.

I was wondering if you finished this one. My contribution got curtailed by Hurricane Matthew. Fab vocals and I love the mellotron. You may well be The Walrus, Sam.

I appreciated your time and effort, but I couldn't hear the song as I imagined with the fretless, so I gave it another try just to get the darn thing done. Thanks for listening.

Let it flow
Love all of those triple rhymes - they really propel this piece forward.

After reading the comments here I realized it wasn't just my ear picking up on the Beatlesque moments in this song.

Who knows why some songs refuse to be finished? Maybe it's because we try to force their closure .. instead of just letting it happen. It seems the best music flows out when we turn off our critical mind and just let it be. This has that wonderful flow.

Very
nicely put, Warren. I do a lot of prose writing too and take the same approach with music as I do when writing: sometimes you just have to free flow and let your subconscious be your guide.

Hi Sam. Have you been recording over at Apple Studios? Superb harmonies and music. It really pulls you in. You can tell you worked hard on this one and it shows. Love the way everything drops out except the beds and lead guitar. Sweet and dirty little break. Really enjoyed everything about this.
I hope 2017 will be a good year for all of us.

Somehow
I knew my impressive shredding in that part would leave you in awe. haha! My fingers were bleeding.
Actually, the music part didn't take that long. I use mostly mono tracks, so mixing is pretty fast. The only stereo trks were the drums overhead and room, and the synth. The vocals is what took a while.

Appreciate that
Dean. I'm trying to put more effort into song arrangements, so thank you for saying "crafted." Makes me feel it may pay off to continue. I only did a handful of songs in 2016, but hopefully I can get back into music more this year and get a bit more practice.

BTW: Loved that atmospheric delay on Gone Forever. I think that totally gave the song just the right vibe.

Hey buddy.
After being worn out by my iconic shredding on this one, I think it may be wise to include others in the future. hehe.

How's my "almost twin" grand-baby doing?
Hope all is well.

Mellotron!
I get the Lennon reference, but the 40 year time difference softens the result: there's ELO and disco and any number of things JL couldn't have even imagined swirling just below the surface! Nice mix, everything in its proper place. Satisfying cut. Maybe revisit the drums at the end?

Hey guys
Yeah, I took a "do whatever" approach to the arrangement, mainly for experimentation. Drum ending: you mean make it tighter? More "final?"

Skunkwrx said 285 days ago (January 11th, 2017)
Ending
I think you need a final hit instead of the little drum roll at the end. The two cymbal hits after the roll make the ending sound a little tattered (which killed the 'anthem buzz' that was working there). Go out in a blaze of glory, I say!
