Description
When I was younger, I on occasion would walk out to the highway, stick my thumb out and see where I wound up.
Once, when passing through Oklahoma.....

In Memory of Rev. Richard ' Frank' Dolan.

Lyrics
The Bingo King of Oklahoma City

I was standing Outside of the Greyhound Station in Downtown OKC
When a Limo pulled up and a one armed Priest Introduced Himself to Me.
He Asked if I wanted a place to stay
Free cigarettes and Three meals a day
He was the Bingo King
of Oklahoma City

Well, I worked Father Dolans Bingo Tables for about a week or so
One day he told me that I didn’t fit in and that I had to go.
I didn’t take the time to ask him why
I just packed my things and said goodbye
to the Bingo King
of Oklahoma City

Just after Thanksgiving of 88 they found Father Dolan Dead
Somebody had entered his apartment and smashed in his head.
His Car was found near an overpass
with the tires missing and out of gas
He was the Bingo King
of Oklahoma City

Hitch Hicking...
Hard to describe to young people that at one time getting around the country with a thumb was easy and relatively cool.
Thanks for sharing this ballad.

Nice flow to the guitar playing, easy vocal style. The song has a story to tell. Entertaining work!

Nice singing and playing

Great storytelling!

Ah .. did the Bingo King make a pass at you? Is that why you didn't fit in?

The longest hitchhike I ever did was a four-hundred-mile stretch back in 1966 when a car broke down in Wyoming and I thumbed my way to Rapid City. I was 16-years-old and it was an adventure.

Thanks.
Not much story telling though. Pretty much just the facts ( as Joe Friday would say ) set to meter and rhyme. And, like it says, I didn't take the time to ask him why.

This trip started out in Ann Arbor in the middle of the night in February , took me to Florida , then west to Albuquerque and lasted about two months.

Had me from the plaintive guitar intro...
A really fine instance of storytelling in song.

Enjoyed this very much Dave.

Be well friend!

Thanks.
The song is pretty much just the facts of how I met Fr. Dolan. A couple of years ago I got curious about whatever became of him, did a little Google search and learned about the murder.
Pure folk/ blues Americana. I just learned about the connection with the Insane Asylum a few weeks ago.
