Description
What can I say? I discovered the Arpeggio setting in Logic Pro X and was like a kid in a candy store! Sigh...

Lyrics
FAN THE SPARK

I.
Well the oracles say,
it's "the season of the witch;"
and your work place boss,
is a son of a bitch!

II.
Something stirring deep inside you;
could be the seven year itch.
Shake it off! Shake it off!
It's just a self-fulfilling wish.

CHORUS:
Dance with me!
Dance with me!
World weary angel
don't fear the dark.
Fan the spark!

Dance with me!
Dance with me!
The night is young,
I'll light your desire
with Dionysian fire!

BRIDGE:
I know you're tired darling;
right down to the wire.
Come dance, we'll fan the spark,
into a blazing pyre...

III.
When the government is failing,
and the stars are falling down;
you're like a frightened "artful dodger,"
hoping your secret's safe and sound.

IV.
When all around is chaos;
and there seems nowhere to turn;
won't you listen to me baby?
There's a lesson still to learn.
Yeah, there's a lesson still to learn.

(Repeat Chorus)

Big ol'
arena sound! Got a bit of an authentic 80s vibe. Were you shooting for that? If not, you somehow nailed it regardless. The arps are like an intense fairground ride. I'm a slippin' and a slidin'.

80s sound
Didn't start out looking for that 80s sound, but once I made the choice of synth sounds it was inevitable. A little different from my usual fare, but all the more fun for it. I don't want to be a one trick pony after all!

Thanks Mr. F...
Glad you enjoyed it.

BTW, I'd love to hear a cover of that old Donovan staple. Hope you take it on!

Those arpeggios
really dance Mike and add a very different dimension to your usual good stuff. The whole thing sounds great from your "new wave" vocals to the discreet but driving drums. Cheers.

Hi Richard!
RE the arpeggios. They say that "less is more," but I couldn't help myself; especially in the middle where I tried to make the two synth sounds dance together... Glad it works for you. :-)

You put your time in the candy store to good use, Mike. Another quality, big production number. You are on a roll. The arpeggios some great. Lyrics from across the ages. Nice one. Thanks.

Many thanks Peter
My opinion re arpeggios is the same as regards wah guitar leads and flanged drums. On the right song they are terrific, but should otherwise be avoided! Thankfully, they do seem to work here. The song could have been recorded without them, but I don't think it would have been as much fun to listen to. Glad you enjoyed it bro!

Ah yes - arpeggios can be addicting, can they not? The synths definitely give it a 80's pop rock feel, as does the drum processing. I felt the rhythm guitar could've benefited from being a little closer to center, since it is carrying the bulk of the rhythm responsibilities, but that's just my opinion - overall this is a solid tune - well performed and arranged. Those synths are just ear candy! Enjoyed!

I know what you mean re
the placing of the rhythm guitar. I had a lot of trouble balancing the various elements of the mix. In the end, this just sounded better than the alternatives. Thanks for listening and commenting Sig!

Funny thing...
As a child of the late 60s/early 70s I HATED the 80s till around the mid-90s when my prejudice finally gave way to genuine appreciation. Sigh... We're complicated creatures aren't we?

Had a LOT of fun working on this one. Glad you enjoyed it Jay!

Plenty of energy in the performance. Big sound. The arpeggiator might be a touch overdone, but hey, you gotta find out what these things can do! I enjoyed listening!

Thanks Philip...
Normally I take the less is more approach... but the arps seemed to fit in a number of places. Don't know what I might have substituted had I not used them. But I'm still learning!

Glad you enjoyed the tune!

Never figured you for a synth guy... (Never figured me for one either!)

They do seem to work here though.

Always good to hear from you my friend. Looking forward to your next offering.

Like it
I'm getting some Bowie from the vocals. I agree with another comment about having an 80's sound, thats fine by me I'm an 80's refugee. Really nice production, like the lyrics, especially the line about the work place boss being a son of a bitch. Sounds like you've mastered Logic Pro. I'm still stuck in Garageband world.

I've gotten
the Bowie comparison a few times in the past. I guess I appreciate it, but in all honesty I've never really been a fan (except for "Major Tom").

Thanks for the thumbs up on the production. It's a bit of a learning curve and I have BY NO MEANS mastered it yet. I'm content to know I'm gradually improving (by fits and starts no less).

Thanks for stopping by Bill. Good to have you back in da hood! :-)
