Description
In my former days with Macjams I used to try to average at least one love song a year to my wife Diana. (Gods know she deserves that and a lot more. Pity ANY poor creature who has to live with, look after, and/or put up with the likes of me!)

:-O

Anyway, I've been long overdue, so here is this years' offering.

:-)

PS: After reviewing the lyrics, I searched---alas, in vain---for the “schmaltz-rock” category. To my shock and dismay no such category currently exists! So once again I have opted for “folk-rock.” While not entirely satisfactory, I feel it is tolerably close. Thanks for understanding...

;-)

PS: Thanks to Richard for his piece LOTUS CANON: http://www.macjams.com/song/83108,
which inspired my use of the Glockenspiel!

Lyrics
LITTLE THINGS

I.
Some days she worries a bit.
Some days she floats on air.
She sweetly fills my moments.
It's nice to have her near.

Puts up with my inconstance;
laughs at my stupid jokes.
She serves up gentle ribbing,
when I do play the dope.
(Sometimes I play the dope...)

CHORUS:
She has a way about her,
...her smile and her caress;
her patience and resolve,
when she's put to the test.

It's the little things she does,
that make my world go round.
Sometimes I can't believe,
this treasure I have found;
---this treasure I have found!

II.
She is a giving soul;
not only cares for me.
Many a stranger has felt
her generosity.

She thinks that I'm the smart one;
but she has taught me much.
She's the embodiment
of faithfulness and trust.
(She taught me how to trust...)

CHORUS:
Already given me far
more than I can repay.
It's not a conscious thing.
You know it's just her way.

It's the little things she does,
that make my world go round.
Sometimes I can't believe,
this treasure I have found;
---this treasure I have found!

Like this a lot, Mike. The lyrics are heartfelt and down-to-earth. I don't find them schmaltzy at all. Really interesting descending melody lines and an eclectic arrangement. Had me thinking the Doors one minute and Moody Blues the next. Very nicely done. Thanks.

"schmaltzy"
No need to take comments like that too seriously bro. I'm a lover of humorous "liner notes." (The cat's out of the bag at long last!)

Glad you found this enjoyable!

Be well friend!

she
looks like your sister! What's that thing they say when you're together long enough...
Always good to hear when two people are in love, even after years (though I don't know how many). You don't seem like such a bad chap...at least from a 'distance.' hah! Nice song ambiance.

My sister!
Well... my SOUL sister perhaps... :-)

To answer your thinly veiled query: 42 years and counting (and more in love than ever...)

A "bad chap" indeed! Ha ha... We ALL have a dark side don'tcha know!

Be well friend!

For some reason I find it really hard to write love songs without them sounding like a cliche. You have really nailed it here though. An honest and heartfelt insight into your relationship. Thanks for sharing with us.

I too find writing
love songs that don't sound cliche very difficult. It's one reason I write so few of them. This one seemed to come together almost effortlessly. (My "schmaltz" comment was purely tongue-in-cheek...)Like I said, it was long overdue, so I'm glad it turned out as good as it did.

Thanks for listening and commenting bro!

Be well!

No schmaltz-rock
no schmaltz-anything but that's OK 'cause this wouldn't qualify. I didn't know about the annual love song post but heartily endorse the sentiment: if you have a lover to sing to, then do it... regularly. It IS a wonder that anyone would not only put up with us willingly but continue to love us back, even after some of the stupid things we do, and they should be appreciated and celebrated. Good man, and keep it up. Thanks for the shout-out.

Hey Richard!
RE the "shout out": credit where credit is due I say! Always happy to promote my bros...

Someday I hope to have a full album's worth of love songs for her. I'll then remix and remaster them all and give her the CD as an anniversary present. :-)

Always good to hear from you friend!

Be well!

I'm sure there will be more love songs... although I don't write a lot of them. Glad you like this one!

Hi'ya Vic!
RE mixing: LOVING Logic Pro X! Although I was skeptical at first, you were right---it IS a lot easier to use. The middle solo section is something I've had lying around for awhile but didn't know what to do with it. Turns out it was waiting to provide a nice interlude for this tune. Who knew?

Hi Maurice!
I surprised her with this when she returned from visiting her mom in Arizona for a week. Yes indeed, I am in her "good books" as you put it.

I hear some of The Doors influence
in this song but then going into the bridge the guitar gives it a different twist which works very well! Such a sweet song of your wife she must be very proud! :)

Funny thing...
the Doors never came to mind while writing and recording this. Must have welled up from my subconscious or something. I think I hear it too, especially in the descending vocal line. Another happy accident!

Glad you enjoyed this...

RE "different twist"
---the idea was to have a brief musical interlude peppered with (you guessed it!) "little things." Glad it worked for you bro!

60's Rock
Micheal, You still can really bring me back to the heyday of radio rock(at least in my opinion). Really nice production. I can tell you put in some time on this one. Nice tune, good words!

great song
A lovely song Mike and as others mentioned I like the glock and accordion and how they enhance the tune. You've prompted me to go back and do a proper recording of a love song I wrote for my now wife when we were first an item living 100 miles apart.Thanks for the inspiration. Guess you and your wife must live on "Love Street"!!! Cheers Mark

Geez!
I never heard the DOORS in this at all till a couple folks pointed it out! Ha ha... How dense am I?

Hey, I do look forward to your own love song to the wife. Keep me posted!
(Hopefully it doesn't sound like the Doors or Moody Blues!)

Be well man!

adds a nice ring, like when the chorus comes in , very nice accordion? like the transition mid way through, its has a Doors quality to it in some spots very cool song!

The Doors again!
I did not get the comparison at all till someone mentioned "Love Street." Then I started to understand... A fine compliment!

The accordion is a Logic Pro X synth patch. Sounds pretty good to my ears.

I appreciate your stopping by to listen and comment Tim! :-)

Be well bro!

I was never able to
get into the Strawbs. I tried more than once! More of a Fairport, Pentangle, Steeleye Span guy me... But I know it's a compliment! There are good reasons why the Strawbs are still recording today!

Thanks for the kind words bro!

Be well!
