No expense spared

Description
We used to live near Stevenage and our local politician was a Barbara Follett ( wife of multi millionaire writer ken Follett) and was one of the many MPS who got found out during one of the many MP expense scandals. Follett claimed £500 to clean an antique chinese rug. So this song is about money grabbing MPs who are only in it for themselves.

Lyrics
What world do you live in sunshine?
Is this your golden dream?
The smug smile of self satisfaction
The fat cat that’s got the cream

Second home off the coast of Antigua
and your husband’s a millionaire
so why’d you need to claim expenses
when you’ve got more than enough to spare

Ask not what you can do for your country
but what you’re country can do for you.
Hand in the till. Have you had your fill?
There’s no expense spared.

You got the job as a moral guardian
but you’re a crook in a 3 piece suit
slapped wrist and a golden handshake
now you’re a lord with a bag full of loot

Champagne Socialist
gave into the greed and the avarice
Even the smallest amount of power corrupts

Ask not what you can do for your country
but what you’re country can do for you.
Hand in the till. Have you had your fill?
There’s no expense spared.

Thank goodness...
...we don't have any politicians like that here in the U.S....

Did I say that with a straight face?

English Beat
Enjoyed this work, the production was spot on.
The lyric is excellent and I don't think you could have delivered an ounce more disgust in yer vocal performance. Well done!

Thank you
I've been labouring over this one for way too long but have been trying to use some o the things I learnt on a creative production course I did…basically… TURN THE SNARE DOWN! ;-)
The disgust in voice is very very real and glad it showed.
Thanks for dropping in
Cheers

Spot on!
Great song Brendan. A bit power popish which is fine by me! Nicely restrained solo and unrestrained words.

Good to see a new song from you.

Cheers

Brilliant take on the audacity of some of the elected officials. Apart from a spot on message this is a catchy infectious song. Well put together too. Cheers.

A very cool tune...
Money... we all need it... but to love it and live for it is certainly toxic!

Love the way you sing this!

Be well bro!

Like the opening. Sounds like it is taking me forward. Fine rocker. Politicians just keep defiling democracy. No wonder there is such disillusionment and anger around. Hard-hitting lyrics. Great hook. Thanks.

Excellent!
Everything is working here - mix is great - arrangement is perfect - and your lyrics and vocals make it clear where you stand. Great song!
