Dancing In The Rain (GSB)

Description
I posted a solo version of this song here but was always intending to get the "Great South Band" together to wrap an arrangement round it.

It came together seamlessly, as expected. Working with Neil and Philip is an absolute pleasure.

Peter Bowen - music and lyrics, lead vocal, harmony vocals, PRS acoustic guitar, mix advice.
Philip Gardner (Philip18) - electric guitar and mandolin.
Neil Porter (jiguma) - Logic Pro Drummer, bass, B3, mix and master.

Thanks, guys.

Regards,

Peter.

Lyrics
Dancing In The Rain - Peter Bowen (March 2017) CAPO 2

[D] [A] [G] [A]

[D] The storm clouds of [A] history
[G] Steal out of the [A] night
[D] They cry early-[A]warning
[G] Of a drift to the [A] right
[G] For whom the bell [A] tolls?
[Bm] We’re all feeling the [C] strain
[D] I’d rather go [A] dancing in the [G] rain [D]

[D] All the king’s [A] horses
[G] And twelve angry [A] men
[D] Can’t put all the [A] false facts
[G] Together [A] again
[G] A threepenny [A] opera
[Bm] Is sung in re[C]frain
[D] I’d rather be [A] dancing in the [G] rain [D]

[Em7] Beggar-man, [A7] thief
[F#7] Can’t get no re[Bm]lief
[C] They fell by the [G] wayside
Throughout the [A] campaign
[Em7] The rich without [A7] wisdom,
[F#7] Drown in their cham[Bm]pagne
[C] Why don’t they try [G] dancing in the [A] rain?

[D] The ghost ship of [A] state
[G] Adrift in the [A] night
[D] Needs to chart a new [A] course
[G] Step into the [A] light
[G] It doesn’t [A] matter
[Bm] If it spoils their pa[C]rade
[D] Let’s all try [A] dancing in the [G] rain [D]

[Em7] No wall can [A7] divide us
[F#7] We’re all one and the [Bm] same
[C] Why don't we go [G] dancing in the [A] rain…

If we dance in the rain it'll be easier to hide our tears from out totalitarian masters of both the right and the extreme left.

Beautiful song gents. Simply beautiful.

Be well!

Ha ha...
"WWR"---an expression I still use now and again. But only with my wife...the reference is lost on my sons and grandchildren, as well as not a few of my wider (and invariably younger)acquaintances! Sigh...

Nice one Peter
This was a really nice song to play around with. Solid performances by Peter and Philip, and a memorable melody - the fact that the lyrics really resonated with me didn't hurt either.
Thanks for the invite Peter.

Dancing Through the Years
Very subtle lyrics here Peter but I think I got the drift and couldn't agree more. It makes far more sense to go dancing in the rain than to try and make sense of what is happening out there. It almost feels to me like history is recycling into the 60's again. This could be a more melodic, softer, gentler version of Dylan's "When The Ship Comes In".
Strangely enough I have been working on writing a song called Playing With the Rain but mine is just about hearing the rain and being inspired to play guitar along with it.

Just beautiful.
I'm not usually a fan of heavy bass, but in this performance and mix it is so right and holds the whole together perfectly. What a smooth song that's performed with grace and agility and absolute control vocally and instrumentally. Such a treat to hear music that is this well-produced. Your attention to the little details is remarkable, too.

Kind words
Hi Paul. Thanks for the email and very kind words. I was quite happy with this song lyrically and melodically and bringing in Philip and Neil to flesh it out was a pleasure. We have worked together probably 5 or 6 times now and there is definitely some synergy going on. We seem to complement each others' talents well. Glad you like this. We appreciate your listen and support. Take care.

Boys from "down under"
Thanks, Freddy. The boys from "down under" enjoy getting together and Neil and Philip really hit the mark on this one. Uncertain times require an unorthodox response. This is one option. Take care, my friend. We appreciate you dropping by.
