Description
Been plodding along for several weeks on a couple of new tunes, but stalled out on both of them. Sigh... :-(

So I thought I'd take a break and mess around on my Dean acoustic guitar in DADGAD tuning, and, lo and behold---before I knew what was happening---out came this tune!

OK... that's not 100% true... That riffy mid-section is something that I came up with several years ago and have occasionally used as a kind of finger warm-up exercise. Finally found a way to use it in a song! HOORAY! :-)

So there you have it.

A simple song about movin' on...

Lyrics
ZEPHYR (JUST CAN'T STAY)

I.
I've had enough of these people.
I've had my fill of this town.
I'll be leavin' come the mornin'.
I'll slip away without a sound.

Refrain:
Hope---it is the warm breeze,
that carries me away.
I feel the zephyr on my neck,
and you know I just can't stay!

II.
Once I thought I'd seen a vision;
but if the truth be told:
I was blinded by the rainbow,
behind that pot of gold.

Refrain:
Ah, but Hope---it is the warm breeze,
that will carry me away.
I feel the zephyr on my neck now,
and you know I just can't stay!

Bridge:
Been a long time comin',
Don't know why it took so long.
Really thought that I could make it here,
---guess I was wrong.

III.
I'll be leavin' come the mornin';
headin' down that open road.
Soon be floatin' on that west wind,
into the sweet unknown...

Refrain:
Hope---it is the warm breeze,
that carries me away.
I feel the zephyr on my neck now,
and you know,
---you know I just can't stay!

I'm on my way!

Yeah!

Mike
you're gonna KILL me, but I keep hearing Kantner every time you sing. I know it's not intentional, or even influential. It's just that similar vocal tone. Mix-wise, this sounds great. One of your best so far.

Funny thing...
after several listens to this posted mix I decided it sounds too "brittle." So I have remixed (slightly) and remastered it for my CD.

As for Kantner. No objections here at all!

Be well bro!

That urge to get away
"Blinded by the rainbow/behind that pot of gold" - good line!

Nice Micheal
nice how a song can start from an acoustic. good job not giving up and putting your ideas together. Enjoyable listen, like the build and changes through out. Those are some cool effects and that lead rocks.

I've always preferred...
the good ol' acoustic/electric mix to straight acoustic or electric. Tends to yield a more aurally interesting result IMO. (Hence my mad love of bands like Jethro Tull!)

I finally figured out how to use the wah function on my pedal in conjunction with Logic Pro X guitar effects. (The software wahs have never sounded satisfactory to me!)I set the pedal to acoustic, ran it through the Apogee Jam interface, and used the Small Brit Clean guitar setting in Logic. I really like the sound and feel this yielded on those leads. :-)

Glad you enjoyed the tune bro!

Be well!

Many thanks Terry!
I too love wahs, but have never been able to get a good one from software. Managed to connect a pedal to my computer interface and away I went! :-)

Anyway, thanks again for listening and commenting.

zephyr
This piece has an old school vibe that I like very much (could be that wah :-) )
I recognize that.... working on tunes and hard to finish them and suddenly something pops up and almost writes itself.
enjoyed it!

How rich...
...Wow! The SOUND of your Dean is amazing. And the bass that backs it up is perfect in the whole mix. I'd love to hear a whole instrumental with that beautiful instrument that you play with such skill and what, to me, sounds like fluid ease.

Thanks Paul.
I assure you, this wasn't played---at least in the mid-section---with ease. It's hard work for me to sound good! The Dean had a little help by being run through the acoustic setting on my Digi-tech pedal as well as through my Apogee Jam interface before the sound even got into the computer. Glad it worked for you!

Hi Vic...
This was a lot of fun to record. The remix sounds even better... Not as "brittle." Anyway, it's nice being back in the saddle again.

Thanks for the kind words bro!

Compelling road song, Mike. Impressive arrangement and you did a great job bringing it all together. A bit of wah is always welcome. Agree re the rainbow line. Killer. Thanks.
