Lyrics
NOWHERE

Sometimes I get so frustrated
It makes me want to scream
Sometimes life gets me so frustrated
It makes me want to scream
You see I've been to the middle of Nowhere
And I ain’t going back again

Most days I have enough
But it still leaves me empty
Most days I have plenty
But it still leaves me feeling empty
But until you’ve hit bottom in Nowhere
You never really know what empty is

When you've been to Nowhere
Every place else looks pretty good
When you've been down to Nowhere
Every place else looks pretty up
If you're heading to Nowhere
There's no point in wishing you good luck

Some say even Nowhere is somewhere
But that is wrong
Some people joke that even Nowhere is somewhere
But that is wrong
Because when you are Nowhere nobody knows you
You might as well be dead and gone

Theme & Structure
Oddly, Tim, when I first conceived this, it crossed my mind to pitch it to you as a collaboration possibility. When I sat down to work out the structure .. the whole thing just kind of fell into place (although I still seem to be tinkering with the lyrics).

Havy Metal Warren
Your best ever guitar playing. Really liked the tone, attack and just about everything about your solo. Now tell the truth. How many cups of coffee did you have while recording this? The music just pulses with those stretched nerves and New York anger. I can just visualize you stomping down the sidewalk, casting dark looks at your fellow pedestrians and daring them to get in your way, LOL!

Monumental!
The middle break is so excellent - massive and airy all at once. Great song.

Wow, metal Warren!
As always, brilliant lyrics but the heavier guitars were a nice surprise.

A cracking solo as well :)

Cheers

Gothic
As usual, I wasn't sure what category to slot this into. I also wasn't sure what "Gothic Rock" actually is, but it sounded like something I could sneak this into, so what the hell?

I'm okay with the fingernails; just not biting off the head of a bat.

We've all been there.
Where? Oh, nowhere.....

An excellent sample of the bright Warren guitar and the multi-layered Smith vocals!

Eh, that tremolo-followed-by-scale guitar riff has made enough appearances, I'd say.

Flying like a Dutchman
Retire what might be my signature sound? Interesting observation.

As a stimulus to creativity, I make a concerted effort to not repeat using the same sonic effects from song to song. (Sometimes even verse to verse.) There are exceptions, say as to when I feel I didn’t adequately capture what I was aiming for or I feel I didn't sufficiently explore the aspects of a sonic texture, but generally I try to keep experimenting with new sounds and new combinations of sounds.

Are there certain melodies or sonic textures that more amiably resonate in our brains? Why do we gravitate towards certain sounds - while distancing ourselves from others? I make a dozen decisions - or twice that - before recording the first note. The choices I make aren't always clear. Sometimes I pick because it is different than what I have used before, but I'm sure I'm also influenced by what I have used and liked before.

I like to think it is leading me somewhere.

But perhaps that means I am doomed like The Flying Dutchman to forever chase after the unreachable; in my case, trying to attain the perfect combination of sonic effects and plucked strings.

Somewhere
Fair enough.

It's your journey to the perfect Warren Smith lick. That's a noble cause.

(Frank Zappa about Elmore James: "He only ever played one lick in his life. But he played it like he meant it.")

No-where?
A Netflicks movie marathon is No-where... No-Where is probably somewhere, just don't need to find it do we...
This number cracks me up as per usual Warren. Pitch challenged surf guitar never gets old... The little sputtering guitar parts you orchestrate never fail to recall Dick Dale to my ears- a good thing!

Walk Don't Run
I was more influenced by The Ventures than Dick Dale, simply because I was enveloped by their music because my older brother bought their albums. But Misirlou will always be with us, and (for me) that staccato picking.

A happy, catchy tune sung by workers as they slave away in the mines for capitalist overlords? Yes, that could be considered the essence of being Nowhere : )

Warren plays Gothic Rock? My brain was rubbing it's hands in anticipation and you delivered alright. Your songs are always joy to listen to Warren. There is always something, whether it be a lyric, a chord change or a Gothic Rock solo that takes me by surprise.
