if it wasn't for icompositions, I would have never found macjams.

Ditto!

As I was reading I was thinking about the time when iComps went down for a while and we landed a fresh crop of talented friends.

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done.

If Simon will tear down the firewall blocking new members, MJ could easily see a renaissance. My fingers are crossed.....

I agree...
Macjams could benefit from the closing of Icompositions
Lots of great artists there, who are homeless now...
there was a great sense of community there, something I missed over here in recent years
I ended up here after the first major crash of icomp in 2008 and I liked it here, so I stayed, although I've been uploading my stuff on Icomp too all these years.

MacJammers

MacIdol

Now iComp

Maybe others along the way I've been a part of that faded away.

Sad to see iComp go. I didn't participate as much there as I have here over the years, but I liked the site and listened to a lot of good music there. Maybe we'll see an iComp 2.0 one day...

Glad to have MJ still here but fear the day it will no longer be with us. It has its problems, but it's been my musical home for 14 years.

2004 was a good year. June of that year I found MacIdol, MacJams, and iComp. It was a very good year...

Those were the days, my friend...

Same. I was on MacJukebox (for anyone who remembers that short-lived attempt), iCompositions, MacJams, MacIDOL, and MacJammers.

MacIDOL exists... barely.
MacJams exists, and works.
iComp is about to disappear.
MacJukebox disappeared months after its inception. CaptKevMan really didn't have the manpower to keep it running, but I liked the site.

I have created a thread to see if Simon can give us a "download your music collection" button so we can get a copy of all our stuff. If you assume everyone still has their songs long after posting it, you might want to see the sadness at iComp. Lots of stuff gone (though some awesome people are setting up an FTP as a repository, so people can upload music they've downloaded from others).

Well
The end of iCompositions has left a lot of people homeless.
My own situation is this: I am an exile aged 56 in a foreign land with severe depression (nobody's fault). Posting music on the internet is not just a hobby for me; it has helped keep me alive.

Now there are many people with different reasons but all the same like me who are looking for a forum and a community.

I am down on bended knee, supplicating Simon. Won't you take them in? It would be a great community service and you would be doing good in the world.

Respectfully,

Dr. Chris McMahon

It look like someone from iComp have done a meeting place for iComp friends.
