Halftime Report right after Fergie's anthem:

CHARLES BARKLEY: “Can we talk about Fergie’s National Anthem?”
SHAQ O'NEIL: “Oh, stop. Don’t do that. Don’t do that to my Fergie. Fergie, I love you. It was different, it was sexy, leave her alone.”
CHARLES BARKLEY: “Damn right it was sexy, I need a cigarette after that one.”

Thank goodness the game itself was better than the pre-game "entertainment," which on the whole was less satisfying than an episode of Bowling For Dollars.

Both the musical arrangement and Fergie's vocal performance of the National Anthem evoked an image of a heroin-induced swoon, with the songstress (often unsuccessfully) straining to reach the high notes.

Her performance will be remembered right up there with Roseanne Barr and Olympic Gold Medal athlete Carl Lewis' vocal atrocities.
