it begins with believing in yourself and your music.

then, education. know the business you're getting into. read stuff like,
Getting Signed: An Insider's Guide to the Music Industry to understand what
it's about.

plan on attending music conferences and workshops where you can meet
successful producers, agents, reps, execs, and musicians to give you support
and tips on how to succeed.

also, plan of performing a lot. A LOT. like, all over the country if you can.

getting signed is about giving up your entire life for your music. the people who
get there, like Jack Johnson, Macy Gray, James Blunt, Ana Nalick, and all the others,
didn't simply wake up one day and become top-selling artists... it took years and years
of meeting the right people, perfecting their craft and skills, and paying ridiculous
amounts of money, time, and soul to achieve.

if this is what you really want, you must be prepared to spend what it costs.
the ride ain't cheap and the road is always bumpy, but the destination is SO worth
the trip... seriously!

good luck!
