I've Killed Birds

Sometimes when you're a kid, you do stuff you don't realize how wrong and horrible it is until you're older. I killed a bunch of birds a few Summers when I was a young punk. I think about the birds I killed and how I wish I hadn't.

I was a boy like you. Learning how to shoot.
Stepping outside. What a glorious view.
Of the green living there. Reaching towards the sky.
Resting upon a nest they built inside.

And there I saw its beautiful wings.
How can it fly? How does it sing?
I wish inside to be like them.
To race the sky. Yet still I am

Just this thing with arms.

I’ve killed birds.
Look at me now.
What have I done?
Where have I gone?

Loaded to the rim. Seeing what I need.
A flapping soul. A singing melody.

So why did I aim so clear?
I watched them fall. I ran there.
Some were gone. Others pushed ahead.
They chirped for air. All of them bled.

One more shot.

I don’t know how to live with it.
I want to bring them all back.
So they could form a coalition.
And swarm to throw me on my back.

Cause I’ve killed birds.
Look at me now.
What have I done?
Where have I gone?

Summer time. A killing spree.
Part of me left when they were freed.
I always cried when I looked upon.
A bleeding robin. A bleeding God.

It should have been me.

I’ve killed birds.
Look at me now.
What have I done?
Where have I gone?

nice elegy for the birds and cool guitar playing...since you have repented, i think the birds from above will grant you forgiveness

is there another meaning behind this song

I'm assuming
there are other meanings to these lyrics. What they might
be, isn't readily apparent to me but that's just fine as a
good cryptic metaphor is a time-honoured tradition in
most musical genres and folk rock in particular. And, it
would appear this tune is working on several levels.

No quibble with the approach and energy of the mix but it
could use a touch of polish, I think. Just a bit to get the
vocals a little more up front and some of the distracting
bass buzz off the guitar. Otherwise, a fine tune.

A always have a problem burrying the vocals a bit. It's something I'm working on. Thanks for the feedback!!!!!
