I lost my father some time ago and it's been raining ever since. This song reminds me to cry when I need to which is fairly often. I miss him every day.

I liked the way it started with a gloomy feel and sorrow sorrounding it. Later the piano kind of watered down is the impressions I have, reducing the intensity. I'm going to listen to it again and take another measure of it. I like it but It doesnt have as much pain (to me) as I know I feel on the subject. I lost my father in 2001 and it still tears me in half. Tool's Parabol & Parabola are completely intertwined with it to me and take on a completely different meaning to me than Maynard intended I'm sure.
So anyway I'm no9t sure if your intent was to lighten up at the end or not.
IMy advice to make it gloomy r painful would be to heavily emphasize ending notes drawing them out in dark reverberation. Perhaps also on the ending note of the paino chord to actually use a discordant note. And I would carry the ending out in a long hanging note. Just my thoughts.

Mixed Emotions
Hey Ruffy,

Thanks for that. Sorry about your loss.

I have wriiten a lot of music and words since my Dad's
passing. Some of it comes out as pure grief whereas other
stuff is more balanced...more emotionally layered.

I find the piano in this sounds kind of mournful yet
hopeful. This track wasn't meant to be totally gloomy. As
much pain as his death has brought me, it can't quite kill
the intensity of my memories and the love I had for him.

I endure the grief rather than letting it overcome me. The
combination of the elements in this composition are a
bringing together of joy and pain which is my way of

I hope you reach a point where you merely bend instead
of being torn in half. Grab on to the love and let it keep
you afloat.

One last thing, and I mean this with all sincerity. I think
Tool's music is some of the most powerful and intense
ever created which is why I caution you against it.
Maynard and the boys embrace negative energy and
incorporate it into their music - lyrically, sonically and
scientifically. They deconstruct their music down to the
frequencies, tonal patterns and rhythms which are then
carefully reassembled to create a kind of musical hypnosis
that is so deep it can consume the listener.

That kind of power can be dangerous, especially for
people who have deep pains and hurts. Beware of the
insidious charm my friend.

I lost my
father at the age of five. Cherish your memories, man.
This is very downloadable.
Certain parts of the piano, I find very powerful. Certain parts, I think
could be more powerful.
Overall a very cool listen.

nice, good beat, a bit repetative but the keys help on the mix.
