Wedding Music 9-9-90

 Genre: Classical

As it was recently our 15th anniversary I decided to "save" the music I created for our wedding. It was on an aging audio cassette that has been played quite a few times since the ceremony in 1990. I recorded the tape into Logic Express and applied some additional mastering and noise reduction since the tape quality had degraded quite a bit.

The music: Imagine if you will a warm fall day in the midst of Yosemite Valley, a small gathering of close freinds sitting under two large oak trees on the verge of a meadow with Half Dome framed behind. That was our wedding and this is the music I wrote for it.

Festive piece
Very interesting wedding music. This is a lovely, festive piece, perfect for the occasion of an outdoor wedding.I really like the "choral" parts.

I would never post the song I wrote for our wedding in 1981. In fact, I didn't even have the courage to sing it at the wedding. Well done, Bubowski.

Festive piece
Thanks for the comments. I would never have had the guts to actually sing at my
own wedding either. Much easier hitting the play button on the boombox! We
used this for the processional with my wife being brought up to the cermony
area by her dad.

Got this off a cassette, didja?
Recorded this in 1990, did ya?

I just happen to have a soft spot for music recorded onto
cassette in 1990, as it happens...

And for, you know, true love, marriage, cool weddings,
and people making it to 15 years of wedded bliss...that
sort of thing...

I think it's remarkable that the recording sounds so good
from back then... and considering the medium...

And I guess I always enjoy your choice of tones and
textures and your ability with a melodic line...

I bet some of the synth geeks around this place will snort
and chortle at some the older samples that may be dated
by now, but I find the overall sound of the thing to be
huge and the piece itself to be spritely and uplifting...

Bet it sounds cool blasting out of a boom box or a PA in

Happy anniversary! Many, many, many more!

Hey Ed, thanks for the comments. I'm always amazed at how big the Kurzweil
sounds. It's funny that two out of three of the sound sources for this were 12 bit
machines (ESQ-1 and the PX-1000+), and on the sustain string chords from the
Kurzweil you can hear the loop points in the samples! I also ended up getting
some odd clipping in the Glockenspiel from the noise reduction (Bias
Soundsoap) which I tried to mask with some global reverb. I'm always torn
between trying to create a new version with all the new tools available, or
leaving it as a snapshot with it's own charms and memories. And, yes, I played
it on a boom box during the wedding :-).

Majestic and beautiful
This is lovely music--and a nice change from what you
think of when someone says 'wedding music.'
Majestic, and in harmony with the natural setting you were
in. (The choruses were a really nice touch.)

And...well, how cool is it that you wrote the music for your
own wedding!

Thank you for posting this here :)

Must Have Been Joyous
Sounds like a beautiful wedding and music to go with it.
When you described the pastoral setting I became even
more envious. Envy is not a good emotion so I would like
to change it to appreciation before I close here. Thanks so
much and I did appreciate it.

What a neat piece
I understand your being torn between the 'snapshot' and the 'all cleaned
up' version. Of course, the solution is to keep a copy of both. This is so
unique as a piece of wedding processional music, I'm sure it brings back
happy memories for both of you when you hear it.

opcode baby!
an exquisite piece. i can smell the mountain air here in the basement.
you did a great job restoring this from tape. and what a labor of love,
in all respects! I too am a reformed opcode vision user. now i am
encouraged to rummage the old attic for stuff i can import into Pro
tools. btw, its a great piece. outstanding instrumentation blend and a
heartfelt progression

Thanks for the comments. I always like to hear from ex-Opcodians! Now that I'm working in Logic, I really miss the MIDI features in Vision.
