Now that everyone is clear that my life is spent in front of my computer...
And w/ rewards like this, I feel no shame... - Ha hah! I swear, not 20
minutes ago I was thinking to send you an email, David to ask if
everything was okay and when do we expect the next shout from you -
God now I'm picking up signals from my computer or some 'em -
Apparently I had decided to leave ya alone but as it turns out, I get to
bug ya anyways.

Dude, it is w/o a doubt that you are a serious drummer, cause
everything is right on, and LIVE - Certainly, you know by now that you
DO make em sing the way they're meant to be heard... And YES, you
are my inspiration and it has been your diplay of showmanship that has
encouraged me to spend significantly more time w/ the skins.

MAN, this is flyn' right... Nice and playful too - we did that!

And the other yes is - YES, I am almost green w/ envy that you get to
have these grand opts to hang out and play w/ Mr Vac. - but obviously
the two of you were definitely meant to be.

Steeeeeeeeeeeeve - YOUR ROCK! Your playing just makes my ears drip
wet w/ goodness... The bass is 0 so funkn' chunkn' and sweet like big
dry wads of Belgium chocalates - Annnnnnnd yo faby string stretchn'
abilitiess crosses right on over to the 'tar too. Your heart and soul is
out there! And what a fine taste it offers up to for us to indulge...

I'm so good right now - I was just about to work on my little ditty,
having just prepped my mind for it, at least I thought... But this
spanker just cranked me right up there and where I needed to be for
what I'm doin.

Right on fellas - A stinkn' fat assed right on - and thank you very
muchie, Sirs

A groupie

Now that everyone is clear that my life is spent in front of my computer...
Thanks to my biggest groupie, Dion! Now that's a comment. Trust me, I know how it is spending life in front of a computer...for both work and play these days. I'm distracted by a lot of non-music stuff recently, so I'm working on songs more slowly than usual, but I've never stopped!

I'm glad you like the drumming on here, thanks man. Not that I played them... that honor goes to the amazing studio drummers of Drums on Demand; I just had to pick through the beats and find what works best with Vac's awesome playing, and mix 'em right. I hope I succeeded in that regard; I'm glad you dig the choices I made.

Of course you're right, Steve totally rocks and keeps impressing the hell out of me. As a bonus, he's a great friend and just cool to talk with. I'm willing to bet that that adds to his musicality.

Thanks Dion, your kind words are much appreciated. Keep on drumming!

It's tight. It's loose...
It's everything you need it to be.

I love everything about this. It's got me smiling. It's got chops, it's got
rhythm, it swings, it's got melody...

Great drumming. Great bass playing. Great guitars. It's just fun...

Big wow.

Yes, 'garden dancing fluffiness'--that's ever so appropriate, as Vera was a fluffy, garden-loving cat. She was mildly evil, but we all loved her just the same. Glad you dug that wobbly, funky guitar and if we got your toes tapping, mission accomplished! Thank you caroline!

Scott, thanks for the kind words man. You can see what kind of gear Steve is using by checking out his page:

http://www.macjams.com/artist/Vac

As for the drums, I'm assembling drum tracks like this using Drums on Demand; I prefer these live samples over MIDI drums, usually... and these samples are cleaner and tighter than anything I'd be able to record.

Thanks again Scott!

This to me almost has
a country picking feel through out, except on steroids. Everything in
the mix fits well. If I might ask, what do you typicaly find yourself
adjusting with Drums On Demand? EQ? I love DOD, but sometimes I
seem to get too much punch out of some of the loops. Well, anyway
enough about my problems. This was great. Always look forward to
hearing from you two.

This to me almost has
Yes, you know Steve's playing often has a country/rockabilly on steroids feel, which I really dig. With Drums on Demand, I usually add a Peak Limiter and crank up the gain on that. And usually EQ, boosting the high end a little, and the midrange in some place that emphasizes the snare... actually, the EQ I use varies considerably from song to song, because I try to emphasize frequency ranges that are not so much in use by the other instruments. Sometimes I add a little reverb to the drums, and occasionally do something strange like use Bitcrusher, Delay or Phaser in very small doses. I appreciate that about the mix, thanks for listening Z!

Me too...
Not much to add to all the other comments, except to say that I really dug
it too. It's got great energy! Very professionally done. I am a bit
confused... I read compliments about your drumming (which I agree
with), but I also read that these are sampled drums... I take it the drums
are sequenced? Just curious about this.

Nice job.

Me too...
Thanks, Clark! The drums are all loops--live samples from the Drums on Demand collection. So, they are not sequenced and I'm not playing them; they are pieced together. I am a drummer, but I mostly enjoy drumming live with other musicians. I approach recordings like this entirely differently, like I'm sculpting a sonic adventure, not rocking out with my friends--and I'm happier with the final results this way. If you heard my band recordings you would probably agree :-) The real music ideas and energy come from Steve's great playing; with these Vac tunes, I'm primarily concerned with taking his tracks and turning them into finished pieces (by adding drums, doing some rearranging, adding effects and sometimes other tracks of noises/instruments/loops/whatever works). Steve and I used to jam together sometimes when we lived near each other, but after 15 years, this turns out to be the method of recording that works best for us both. I'm glad you like this, thanks for listening and faving!

Grooving all the way from up there to bottomland. Great rocker. Very

well but I know this is a splendid listen. Full spectrum jamfest.

UHH FORGET THE TITTLE!
Dude, what does tittle have to do with the price of peanut butter? Glad you
dug this Mr. Dr., Steve kicks ass, doesn't he? I'm 'on Drummage' in that I
arranged the drum tracks. Some studio musician played the actual
instruments in a studio somewhere, thus the pro sound as opposed to the
flat, metallic can-like sound I get from trying to record in my band room,
which, you know, I could really improve if I wanted to put in the time and
effort... and MONEY... lots and lots of money... which, not that it wouldn't be
a worthwhile project, but hey! I only have so many time and greenback
resources, so but--and I'm not saying 'never!'--but in the meantime, before
at least I get around to actually (and I don't want to imply that this is a done
deal... I have many a many different kinds o wacked out things that
preoccupy me and distract me from important considerations like ending
