The Ticktockman (LIOLI 3)

Description
Thank you Chikoppi and BandmateLoops.com for creating this challenge! I had fun, and I hope you like the results.

I used all four loops prominently, in many cases highly modified. Also used are many loops by Bass on Demand, Drums on Demand and Zero-G. Thank you, various anonymous musicians for this abundance of quality loops.

The Ticktockman is the sinister antagonist in Harlan Ellison's awesome short story: "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman

Well in keeping
with your standard 'freaky' ride you always produce for our listening pleasure! Thanks for that -

Yet well in keeping with the funky get-down. nice one.

The Ticktockman insists that all of life proceed with lockstep, clockwork precision... keeping your foot tapping is all part of his timekeeping plan, haha. Glad you enjoyed this, thanks for listening!

Wow!
PV, this is one helluva cool track! High energy, and with those samples, never gets boring. Very nice work!

Oh, and do I even need to mention how great the mix sounds?

Thanks man! Never getting boring is one of my goals when mixing, I appreciate the validation :) I'm glad you dug this, thanks for the kind words, Mike!

I think I need to read this now.
But in other news...I DID want to get up and dance! I love the spooky voices and noises tucked into your rich mix. A totally unique take.

Thanks for listening, I'm glad this has the dance motivator going on, and I'm glad you enjoyed my crazy mix! I highly recommend Harlan Ellison, who's quite the amazing writer. This story in particular is just one really bizarre, entertaining read.

Thank you bud! All of the voices are loops from Zero-g, from a Middle Eastern collection. I love the way they sound, and they seemed to fit really well with where I was going here. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Thanks, Youra! Yes, play this at a party where it belongs! The thing that is so rewarding to me about playing drums live is getting the audience moving to my beats... same with these digital tunes. I'm glad you enjoyed this, thanks man!

Mungo's over there... he's the one with the voice that sounds like it's being squeezed from a toothpaste tube. Thanks Mr. Nougat!

David...
I had to rent an extra brain just to LISTEN to this...

This is so cool... The emotional effect on me is that I just stop thinking and become a toe-tapping and irrationally grinning fool...

I love the Jack-Bruce-like slightly distorted descending bass bits in this mix, and the multiple funk synth riffs...

One of the hallmarks of your production style, David, is that there's so much going on, but it's all good stuff, nothing superfluous or busy or messy, and the total mix and arrangement ends up being clear, clean, punchy and catchy...

This is exceptional... Really like it...

Sorry about that, I hope the rental didn't cost too much.

Thanks for the kind words, Ed, I'm very glad you were into this. That's just what I hope to hear; lots going on but all in the service of the song.

I'm glad you stopped by for blank-minded toe-tapping session.

Damn! This has some serious funk to it! I dig , man! You did an excellent job on this track! This tune reminds me of hardcore 70's...you know; bell-bottoms, big afros, wide lapels and platform shoes! Woo Hoo!! I got down and got funky with this one! Awesome, PV!! Peace, man!

so many sounds -
- so little time to absorb it all. this'll require repeated listenings. (is there such a thing as acid-funk?)

i really like that dirty bass in there.

Smokester
Acid-funk would be an appropriate category, probably. I debated whether to label it 'psychedelic' or 'experimental' or 'funk' or 'techno' or what. It didn't seem to quite fit any of those, so I figured a tune who's primary function in life (and yes, tunes are alive, of course) is to make you move your ass is probably first and foremost a dance tune. Also important is the psychedelic, but this doesn't sound like them ol' rock tunes from the 60's. I hope you enjoy many listenings, thanks for stopping by!

Reminiscent of the Sly and the Family Stone album which brought me many nights of listening pleasure when I was young - those were the good old days ;)

Funny, I didn't discover the funk until college... I had always been such a rocker, I barely noticed it while it was happening. Now, of course, I love that stuff. Glad you like this, Neil, thanks. I did have fun with that toothpaste tube, every studio needs one!

This reminds me of those
funkedelic 60's/early 70's movies where the camera is thrust into a Go-Go club with the zoom rapid fire in and out, and the strobe is firing; but this music is more friendly than that, not as scary. Constant entertainment for the ear. Nice job. What was the name of the character who kept trying to mess up Ticktockman's timing? I work with a guy like that. Thanks for bringing to mind a good read that I will revisit. :-)

Rapid zoom
It was the Harlequin himself that kept screwing with the Tocktockman... dropping millions of jelly beans on the carefully timed changing of shifts! Yeah, one of the people I work with is also messing with my timing, haha. I'm glad you dug this, Joe, thanks for listening. I know what you mean about those rapid zooms... taken to the extreme in kung fu movies!

A real toe-tapper!
Maybe a little freaky toe-tapper, but a toe-tapper nontheless!

The production here is pretty darn flawless and the whole structure of the piece is really cool - because despite it's length it never gets very repeatitive and you manage to keep one's interest the whole way through!

Way to use dem loops, man!
