never walk away

Description
this is a quiet, melancholy little song i constructed with a fender rhodes, my trusty casio cz1, and a melodica. before anyone says anything: there is static coming in and out of the song. i planned it, and lovingly added reverb to it (although the signal on the rhodes gets too hot a couple of times). all of the sounds were made with the synth.

couldn't figure out what genre to put this under, anyone got any ideas? reminds me of sparklehorse a little, or maybe low. after reading Tobin's primer on macjams genres, I am moving this to indie rock.

I think
it is very cool to emphasise things like static with lovingly added reverb

Another great piece Michael.

So these are all 'real' instruments...?

Is the casio producing the wibbly wobbly synth embellishments?

all
"real." the casio is a great synth, it's way different than the others I use, but very cool in it's own way. you can make a lot of just noise on it, and some pretty crystalline sounds. the melodica was abandoned by an old room mate, and i inherited the rhodes from an old friend who didn't want to carry the thing when he moved. thanks for listening, i think of this as more of a sketch than an actual song.

Static Lover
...but did you make out with the static? That's what I really want to know. :-)

I actually love the static; it adds the feeling of wind or rain or the ocean to the song. This is a really terrific song, sounds very contemporary and evokes such a strong mood. I'm starting to figure out that I really like pretty much everything you post here.

I like the wibbly wobbly synth, too.

wow
those are really nice words. thanks. this is just a sketch for the most part, and i should probably re-do it with actual lyrics; but i'm really glad you liked it. especially that you appreciate the found sounds/noise aspect. thanks so much for listening.

Narcoleptic joy
I like the feel of this one...yes I can see a comparison with some of Low's stuff (or some Mojave 3 too?) I like the casio sounds you have on this too..this would sound good after some big rock number on an album. A sweet comedown
Cheers

i love
mojave 3; have you ever listened to the last slowdive record? it's basically an electronic mojave 3 album. thanks for listening.

you
expected punk? maybe you read my artist page. not much punk anymore (sometimes). that was a jumping off point for me, and i have retained the "do it quick, do it yourself" attitude. thanks for commenting, and i'm glad you liked. i'm always happy when people comment (for selfish reasons of course) but also as it draws my attention to their world. now i can go check out your page. thanks for coming by.

rhodes rule
delicious in its sparse beauty and generous soul. You write such diverse and unique tracks. The little spacey pings were delightful

Sad and sleepy...
...and happy? What's going on here? A seemingly simple song evokes a complicated set of emotions from me. This song sounds like what deep, calm breathing feels like, if that makes any sense. A shimmering mix with a nice warm bass.
