Moments of You

I wrote this song in April of 2007 for the Church I was currently employed at. I was the Youth Worship & Arts Coordinator for four years and was asked to write a theme worship song for the upcoming summer's Youth Missions.

Moments of You was written and recorded specifically for the middle and highschool students to learn and be able to play on their trips oversees. A few of my goals were to write a song that had an overall "easy" feel, so that anybody between 7th-12th grade could play it, and a very singable melody.

Most important to me were the lyrics, which I desired to flow as one long sentence and recreate the experience of being on a missions trip.

It's an acoustic song (so that students could play it anywhere) with hand percussion. To spice up the recording my young cousin played the violin tracks for me.

This is the first song I've had a deadline for, so the vocals are a bit rushed. Please excuse them :-)

Thanks for listening!

As we gather here, in this place revere
as your spirit moves right through us
In the time that we take it's the memory we make
as your voice is heard in our ear

It's the moment of you, God
it's the breaking of our hearts
it's the moment of you, God
in the moment that your heart is

Revealed to us,
let your presence be felt and your love overwhelm
Oh God, speak to us
in this circle we raise all in one voice we praise
in the moment of you, God
in these moments of you, God

In the morning we rise, you open our eyes
to see your movement around us
as the motion begins you move from within
an eternal change in who we are

Come and witness all who have seen
your reflection indwell everything
cast the vision for all who believe
remember who you are and see who we can be

Enjoy the galloping
Your singing is very nice to hear. The quality of the guitar is nice too. Which isn't always done with such a nice vocal.

This is quite something this tune is. Especially in the lead. But the singing is some of the best i have heard of this type of style.

This is a special tune done very well in every way in my ears.

WaY tO gO !

Rousing and...
Breath-taking. LOL

I'm not sure many of those kids will be able to muster the breath control to sing this themselves, but if they do, they should be ready to move onto long-distance underwater swimming afterwards.

Very well-done, my friend. Great instrumental and vocal performance, arrangement and recording. And your young cousin did some nice fiddling, to boot. ;)

Praise for being in the moment of You
Seth, I like the song and the story behind it. Your words flow well and are very accessible. Direct singing and no-nonsense instrumentation -- a direct and unflinching testimony. Keep up your great youth ministry work...which actually ministers to older youth, too!

Great voice.
This is indeed a good song, and your singing does you proud - lovely pitch and fine intonation. Your cousin sure can play the fiddle, and the recording of the guitar is very good. I have two little nits: firstly, there seems to be way too much reverb on the vocal track and secondly, the gasps you take between lines (necessary ones I'm sure as Joe pointed out) are a little startling. Maybe some "gasp-editing" software is called for.
Otherwise, good post - these are technicalities only!
Cheers from Oz,

I'll tell you what I like about this first... it focuses the listeners on Him.... I find myself wading through all modern worship stuff, and discarding 90% of it because the content is "I" "ME".... I've found that when I choose stuff that focuses on Him... the congregation connects with Him more readily, and as a worship leader this is my #1 priority... great job Seth

I'll be by to listen to more stuff when time permits

Moments of You
This was good! I think you reached your goals, but I wonder how young kids performed it as it longs for a reckless and passionate voice (which you gave it!). I'll bet it was hit at your church. Can't help but wonder what it would be like if you weren't rushed? Maybe it helped. Violin and percussion were nice additions. I'd love to hear this live. Thanks.

You are a genuinely mega-talented young man! Rushed or not, your vocal technique here is incredible. You must teach me how you do it one day! Your song is outstanding and I feel I should be paying to listen to something this professional and well done. I think you have a very bright future ahead of you--keep up the great work! Just beautiful! Michael
