Overdrive ~ Acoustic

Description
our original version of overdrive was a bit self indulgent, and i believe as a result was not taken as seriously as it should have been considering what a fine song it is. this version is a stripped down acoustic rendition with a different vocal track as well as some new mixing. i hope you will all enjoy this tune as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Lyrics
OVERDRIVE

Dust kickin’ from behind
My baby’s on my mind
And I’m comin’ home

Empty roads, sleepy towns
Desert wind whippin’ ‘ round
Got the pedal all the way down

No time to stop for gas
Full tank, gonna make it last
And I’m comin home

I know soon I’ll be there
I can almost smell your hair
And baby, I’m coming to you

So long I’ve been gone
Your home fire’s burning strong
And I’m missing you

This car is way too slow
I feel the engine glow
Temperatures boilin hot

Heartbeats the only sound
2 am the music’s loud
And I’m comin home

I know soon I’ll be there
I can almost smell your hair
And baby, I’m coming to you

White knuckles on the wheel
White lines begin to peel
Red lights, sirens blowing
Just make my engine scream

Overdrive – gonna push this car until it flies
Overdrive—the only way I feel alive

man...
I don't even know what to say anymore... You are, without question, one of the most talented people on Macjams.

As for the song... damn fine... guitars and vocals just about perfect... wish I had that kind of patience!

Fave and download... and you continue to rock!

The first thing
that strikes me is the clarity of the recording. This really is pro quality. The playing and vocals are just perfection and bring this beautifully written song to life.
Obviously downloaded. Thanks for a new version of an already loved song.
Cheers

Pro recording, pro playing and singing - top dollar. Even in this version, the passion and energy slap you in the face... it's a stunning rock vocal. Hats off guys - this is another track for the album.

Great!
Amazing acoustic version of one of my most favorite tunes by MC.

Allen, your vocal here is more than great to describe, you're doing such a great job with your vocal controlling and your acoustic is great.
Jason, I'm hearing a bass line, am i right? ... Such a great friend, guitar & bass player you are. Great job both of you ...

Thanks for sharing bros.

Take Care

Thanks Birdman!
Yes, there is a bassline, however... it's all Allen. Originally, I did play bass (for the (Live) version), but when I sent it to Allen, he took what I had and revamped it to give it a sense of life.
I am honored to have you as a friend as well. I am also inspired by your playing and passion. Thank you, my friend.

acoustic overdrive
classic power ballad. Better then anything Bon Jovi could of done. dug the drop tuning, gives depth and a cool aggression counter to the nice flatpicking acoustics.

excellent

thanks be to all of you
This song was a Jason Whitman composition that i feel lucky enough to have been a part of. As usual, I was able to put my stamp on it, but I like to think this was more a great collaborative musical piece than any one person's tune. Thank you all for listening.

ya
like that fingerpicking the way it starts out!
Catchy, Plus the lead zep feel with the singing is cool.

Enjoy the texture of the guitars, really seems like you guys did your homework with the coolness of the guitar. REally quality acoustic strums and the cool fingerpicking really makes this tune take off.

This is a very quality recording in so many ways. Like the taking the chance with those chords.
Like that open D sound and making it rock! Cool!

many thank!
when I first sent the idea to Allen, the song was very rough indeed. I had it at two separate tempos, and that was a mess. I also had the verse section being played very different.
To get it where it is now took several iterations before we both were happy. Allen started playing with his acoustic and had some great and fitting accompanying parts right away. to me, those are what make the song great.
the chorus is the tricky part cuz in writing the chord progression, i veered away from any set "scale" pattern. but, i think that's why it works so well.... because it's different and "not normal"
we are very pleased with the way the song turned out. to date, it's the most involved we have both been in the writing process. Usually, it's "my song" or "Allen's song" but this time, Allen took my piece, helped to give it direction and life. Keeping the core of what the tune was, but focusing that energy into what it needed to become, if that makes sense.
I think as we progress as a unit, that will become the norm for us. We have even been using Video iChat for another tune. Each contributing riffs, taking that writing chemistry to the next level.
Thanks to all for stopping by. I know we both always appreciate the feedback. We work hard to create the best music possible, and are pleased you all find it enjoyable.
Thank You
