Song Description

Happy Octonion Day

In mathematics, the octonions are a nonassociative extension of the quaternions. Their 8-dimensional normed division algebra over the real numbers is the widest possible that can be obtained from the Cayley-Dickson construction. The octonion algebra is often denoted O.

Possibly because they don't offer an associative multiplication, the octonions receive at times less attention than the quaternions. Despite this lack of popularity, they are related to a number of exceptional structures in mathematics, among them the exceptional Lie groups. Additionally, octonions have applications in fields such as string theory, special relativity, and quantum logic.

well smokey, I have NO idea what you said in that song description, but I know you're a total math head who's also an amazing music head. (And I know for SOME people, those go together - alas, not moi!) This is a VERY cool production. Love how the high piano tune comes in there and makes itself known. Your build is really elegant - you are just so talented - thanks!

very lovely! but...this gentle piece sounds fairly pastoral to me. the furthest thing from my mind was mathematics. or chess, for that matter. is the blurb in the description meant to be ironic? ;)

It must be so cool to think in numbers, seeing the patterns in everything. I love this little number. It is pretty and interesting and arranged so well that it sounds. well, perfect. :-)

I was once...
...in an extremely altered state and this friend of mine, who was at college on a full scholarship for physics, explained why our live actually DO shorten as time passes. Physically.

He was a genius (hope he still is).

This reminds me of that conversation....

Nice tune
I'm guessing all done in GB. Sounds great. Great technique of build up and very elegant way to wrap it up. I enjoyed the math trivia as well. Reminds me of grad school...

Sorry about the
typos. Just when I think I'm being clever, I click submit before I check my work. Anyway, I got to listen again, and for that alone, coming back was well worth it.

nice bill
love how it starts with that eastern sounding section and turns into the piano before we get back to the main theme. i really wish that it was longer. i also wish i was more gifted at math; statistics for research is about as deep as I get. really beautiful piece of music.

I LOVE THIS!!!! : )
You are so amazing Bill!!! : ) You are the only one who has ever made mathematics beautiful to me. Where were you when I was trying to make sense of it all - oh, yeah - College or bust in the Blue VW. : ) If you'd taught Algebra, I'll bet it would have made a lot more sense to me. There would have been music, and class would have been way more fun. : )
