Transgenre Express #2

 Genre: Ambient

This is a second mix from a 35 hour session during the early part of August this year, where I played with everything I had and recorded lots of mixes/takes.

This is longer that #1 but has, I hope, its own appeal.

The 'Express' part of the name is short for expression.

Let me know what you think. These pieces are possibly an acquired taste, I don't really know though.

A dream piece
Its sure fits to August when the dark time starting to come over us here in Sweden... I like this mix a lot it have so many cool secret stories in it.
Too me it is like I paint with sounds and really can dream away in difference ways of space as a way back to earth there I try my very best to find peace.

Thanks Kenta.....
Yes, August was a strange month for me, in many ways.

This mix is one of many dark pieces that were mixed early in the month and then put to one side.

There are a couple more that I may upload, but we'll see what happens with other stuff moving through the creative stages of what I do.

Take care.

An acquired taste ...
Of course it is. Deep ambient music like this requires the attention of the listener. It asks much of the listener -- ten minutes is a long time for most listeners. It is not "pleasant" in a harmless, innocuous New Age way. It is often unfamiliar. The melodic and rhythmic elements are often obscured, even non-existent. You can't hum along. You can't bop your head. You wouldn't want to dance to it. It is often repetitive, but not for lack of imagination. In attempting to establish an "ambience," it tries to pull the listener away from the everyday, a real challenge for the composer. I think you have succeeded quite well here. A wonderful piece of dark ambient.

Hello Roca....
Your kind and thoughtful words give me both encouragement and details of the music and its effect on others. This is all very valuable information.

I appreciate the time you have given to my soundscape and description.

This is an area of music that I would like to do more in but I tend not to focus too long in one genre at any one time. I don't even know what will be created next. That is part of my enjoyment in 'the mix'.

Take care.

Acquired Taste?
Well, then, I have acquired it!
I find all of your compositions to be deeply-felt, intelligently designed, and filled with hidden stories. I didn't find the length of this to be of any concern. Of course, it's not a singable tune. If that's what one is listening for, he's be disappointed. But you have once again created a magical and sui generis landscape that is full of emotion. Your careful selection of digital sound is second-to-none, Paul. Bravo.

Hi Paul.........
I really appreciate your comments. They always give me hope for the future.

This piece is another diversionary soundscape. One that whisks the listener away to somewhere 'else'.

I always work very hard to pick just the right sounds, using as few or many synthesizer sounds as I think the piece requires or my computer will handle at any one time.

Sometimes there are many takes until the right overall effect is reached. For this and the others in the session, there are around 2 hours of music, in mixes that are anything from 1 minute to 15 minutes in length.

Who knows what will come out next?? I don't and that's part of the joy of creativity for me at this time.

Take care.

Hi Daniel......
I would consider anything with this mix, including vocals. I can't sing so if you have anyone or anything in mind, please mix away and do what you want.

It's good to know that you would consider another angle on this piece.

Take care.

Is there a time limit?
This ends rather abruptly. I could have listened to it a lot longer. This is really good stuff. Fascinating.

PS I wrote a trans-something-express tune the other day. http://www.macjams.com/song/44873 Rather different from yours.

Hi Vic....
Yes there is a limit, to the original soundscape. After the main part of this mix finishes, just before the end, the first section repeats to finish the piece but it actually would loop again through the whole if I hadn't stopped it. I always like to finish these sort of mixes with the same structure ending as at the beginning.

I appreciate your thoughts on this mix. They are very well received.

I'm off now to check out your song mix....

Take care.
