Psalm 8

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This is a 2.42 minute instrumental I made with very modified loops that consist of piano, oboe, bassoon, and violin section. The key is F#maj and the tempo is 98. I recited Psalm 8 over the sound bed. Many thanks to Drakonis for EQ advice, and to Feter for giving me the idea to do a fade out at the end.

Lyrics
1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.

2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.

6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet:

7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,

8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Love it...
Such a beautiful background piece... love your work on the music, it sounds very realistic, major kudos there!

I also love your inflection and honest, emphatic presentation here. Gorgeous harmonious singing, as always...

Excellent work. The vocal recording sounds quite good, even with your backup mic.

Good to hear new stuff from you!

Drakonis

and thank you, my friend
for the EQ advice and for listening to my music. a big thank you for introducing me to garageband and MacJams. The mic is OK as long as I do a song in one sitting, but it changes from take to take. I am happy that you liked this.:-)

Thank you so much
Yes, you heard it and said it could be a hymn. I decided to echo David the psalmist in his words to our creator. Thank you for always listening and for being such a great friend. You always appreciate my music and that makes me smile.:-)

Lovely and inspiring...
Very nicely done Roxy. A sacrifice of praise from the heart.

It's comforting to hear something like this after all the nasty Forum Posts, many of which smack of Nazism before the holocaust and/or the Bolsheviks just prior to 1917.

May God have mercy on us all...

Be well!

Hi, Mike
I must say I'm way behind on forum posts and I've missed a lot of songs, too, and need to play catch up. Thank you for listening, and I'm glad this comforted you. The Psalms always comfort me, too.

Your reading...
...is done with such intensity and understanding of the text. The background provides just the right simplicity to accompany the power of the words. Someone else may have been tempted to write a "big old" arrangement of this, but your understatement adds a strength to the text that can be discovered in no other way. A REAL psalm of praise, Roxy.
Peace.
Paul

Many thanks, Paul
It's funny.. When I composed the music, I had no idea what I would do with it. I am glad the simple arrangement works, as I don't know if I could compose anything complex and grand! I deeply appreciate your comments, and thank you for listening. :-)

Yes
Looking up at the stars makes us feel how small we are, yet we are of first importance to our creator. (Matt:10:29-31) Thank you for listening to this, Bill. I did my best to line up the notes as not to drive the math precise people crazy.

Hi Roxy
The concept of reading texts to backing music is interesting. I've been thinking of it sometimes but never done anything about it ... yet.
Your backing vocals are really beutiful here.

To me it would have been nice if the waves would have stayed on all way through the track. Are they "real" or from sound effects in for example GB?

Curry!
My, you look young. What vitamins do you taker? I need the same kind.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I finally got over to hear your latest- rich and lovely as always. :-) Hmmm... I didn't put the ocean sound in more because I downloaded it from the internet and it was very short. I had to double track it, as not to have it be too loop-sounding and it would have been a pain to do all that. (I lost my fx library when my computer died) and quickly grabbed this sound as a quick idea.

I'd LOVE to hear you reciting with your wonderful guitar playing and will be looking forward to hearing you. :-)

Well, thank you, Lena!
I am glad you liked this so much- thank you. :-) Drak helped me EQ this, which really helped. I used a USB mic, which works Ok if I record in one sitting. It is different from day to day, so I'm glad I was able to get this done in one day.

This is wonderful
I love the idea of spoken word over music, and it's not particularly done much. Your reading is very expressive, and fits so well over the music and sounds you chose. The Psalm you chose is one of my favorites, too.

Thank you so much for listening to this. I don't know why spoken word pieces aren't done that much. I really like trying them and hearing others do them.

Emotion
I'm late Roxanne, sorry, but I think never too late to say your "spoken word" is very nicely done. Even if your language is not mine, I can hear the expression of your heart in the intonation of your voice and more, your recording is perfect...
