Description
This song is titled "Runaway".
Tracks:
Three primary guitar tracks done by myself.
Two fretboard mic tracks - Captured the pick clicks and string work on the primary guitar tracks
One bass track - I actually played my son's bass for this track! Enter Mark the bassist!!!
One organ track for accent
One primary vocal
and one harmony vocal (Harmony vocal is processed with flange and phase shift and LOTS of eq)
For the lead guitar tracks, I did two surrounding leads panned far left and right. Eddie (EEFliess) did the primary counter point lead which is centered and elevated in level. The three tracks seem to work wonderfully together. Thank you so much Eddie! I'm still amazed that two musicians that have never met can create things that work so well just sending ideas back and forth!!!
Eddie Fliess (EEFliess) laid down the drum percussion in about 10 minutes while he was at work!!! Man it would have taken me about a week to do drums this well! Thanks so much Eddie!
Once again this tune is what it is because of the help of another MacJammer not only for musical input but suggestions and ideas as well! Thanks again Eddie! You are an amazing musician! I look forward to MANY MORE collaborations with you!
This song marks the first song I've recorded a real live bass on. Man am I out of practice on bass! It took a few takes to get this right! It's not a particularly complex bass track but not having played for a long time I had trouble hitting the longer frets on the bass and that resulted in a lot of retakes.
Behind the song:
When I lived up in Seattle I worked with a man named Larry. For the women of MacJams Larry was simply drop dead hunk gorgeous. He could have been a Chippendale dancer in the blink of an eye. In fact I seem to remember he told me his previous girlfriend had submitted a picture of him to them. I'm not sure what happened with that, but he had the looks, the body and to go along with all that he was just a down right nice and wonderful guy. Not the least bit hung up on himself. It was kind of funny to go to bars with Larry... I mean the girls stared and sat with their mouths open drooling until someone pointed it out them... Then they'd look all embarrassed and act like they hadn't noticed!
During the time I worked with Larry he met and married a lady named Denise. Like himself, Denise was one of the "pretty people" of the world. She could have easily graced any magazine or been a NFL cheerleader. She had that all-American girl back home look that so many men adore.
There was just one problem in this "perfect" match. Denise could not seem to cope with the idea that she would settle down to be a wife, eventually a mother, and whatever would follow. She could not seem to adjust to a life alone with Larry. It seems she wanted the attention she once had when she was single.
Every few months Larry would come to work and confide in me that Denise had disappeared again. Usually she would go and get a hotel room, or stay with a friend and after she partied for a week or so would come home telling Larry how stupid she had been and would he take her back. It was like she was resisting the change from a party girl to a more settled life with partner.
Larry always took her back with more love and care than I think I could have come up with under the circumstances. He used to tell me about how he would sit with her and tell her that change is a good thing. She should welcome the changes in her life because they would keep life interesting.
This song is about Denise and Larry. After I left Seattle I have no idea what happened to them. I hope they managed to work things out and I really hope Denise was able to see that life could still be great!

Lyrics
Run away
MRH 2008
I have seen you run away
leave our lives in disarray
Its taken so much time
you couldn't see things were fine
And you know its gonna change
Nothing ever stays the same
You know its gonna change
Nothing ever is the same
You've run away, far away
far way, so far away
Have you left it all behind
just memories in your mind
Is a new life taking form
Like a child new born
And you know its gonna change
Nothing ever stays the same.
You know its gonna change
Nothing ever is the same.
You've run away, far away
far way, so far away
Look at everything you've lost
How can you bear the cost
Every time you take flight
and disappear into the night
And you know its gonna change
Nothing ever stays the same.
You know its gonna change
Nothing ever is the same.
You've run away, far away
far way, so far away
