Funkin in the Durty Durty

I'm posting this track as more of a question. I've gone back over this song again and again. I've remixed it, come up with several versions. This is the original. It's another of my "monkey house" songs. I've spent too much time with it to know whether it's any good or not. Is it? Is it too slow? Too stumbling-ly awkward during the transition? Should I scrap this project and start over? Are the drums enough to make you want to bob your head?
I'm very tempted to get drunk one night and sing over it myself. I will, of course, gladly take requests for a collab on it.
In general, I wanted to make a West Coast-style funk with some Southern twists.
Thoughts, my fellow Macjammers?

Nice Josh...
I think it's a promising track - a bit boomy on the low drum - lots of potential and yes, give it a go with your vox!

I like
It reminds of of Kraftwerk somehow, simple tunes, yet refined and sought after tunes. To me this is not a funk song really, more electronica, You have a potentially good picture building here. As an advice, although every musician is different, if I feel to blogged up with a song, I just let it go and move on with something else - chances are you'll get new ideas that will make you look at this song with different eyes, and it may feel fresh again... Thanks for posting! /Mikki

seriously, i've rediscovered krautrock recently, and kraftwerk is awesome. i appreciate the compliment.
yeah, there are a lot of songs on my external harddrive that are in progress, having been abandoned after hitting a wall. i appreciate the reminder that not everything we produce is done. thanks.

I like making beats. The kind of beats I aspire to make are generally funky, dirty, spacey, and largely hip-hop or electronica related. You will also be hearing more flamenco from me, both electronic and classical, as I continue to get a better gras... [see more]
