Description
Mr. SonnyJim and I collaborated on this little quickie. Mr. SJ is a master of the stutter and the transform palette that adds all this cuts spectacular weirdness. Trying to break out of the doldrums and conformity that has been keeping me a bit confined musically these days....has a bit of a funky vibe. Great in the phones.

Very hot, very cool... I love the energy, the rhythm track, and the "spectacular weirdness." It all works great and is going right on my iPod to inspire me out of my conformity. Thanks for this killer track.

Thanks Patrick.
Takes a quick hand to beat Feter to the punch these days. I appreciate your kind words. Is it as cold down in Menlo as up here in the city? Man I'm freezin' tonight. Anyway, SJ and I had fun with this one. Glad you dug it. Break free!

City Music...
...this reminds me of one of those scenes they put in movies where they insert flashes of scenes from the city at night with neon and car lights and blurred motion etc. good stuff. I heard touches of early 2000's U2 in some parts near the end.

I've always wanted to make some arty music videos as visual 'soundtracks' to my music. Kind-of-a reverse process. But, alas, I just don't have the patience. I like your vision though of the city scene flashes and blurred motion, I'm totally there. Thanks so much for the comment.

Hey C,
Thought you might dig this one. Seems to be up the alley you have been exploring recently. Particularly the end that gets distorted and maniacal. I haven't heard Apollo 440. I'll have to check them out.

Nice one
Just sounds really good. Really great sprawling sounds that mesh with the tight drums perfectly - I dunno what you and SJ are doing with the stutters and transformations but it seems to be working. More please -

Phil
Thanks for droppin in. Yeah, the panning is out of control with this one. SJ really went for broke with the stereo imaging, but I think it works with this one. Kind-of a cinematic sprawl. I like that word : sprawl.

I feel sure
that this was tough to mix! Your patient devotion paid off: it sounds great. Clattery and busy as hell (but with a lot of 'air' in there). The artwork is ace, too! Glad to have had a h-h-hand in th-this.

Since we have two of these (Beat Project and this one), maybe we should do a third...? "The Jittery Trilogy"? "Triple Glitch"??

Mr J.
Thanks for partnerin with me on this one. You added that all-so-needed f-ed up je-ne-sais quoi. I can always count on your considerable skills to do something with a cut I never would have thought of that just makes it excellent. The mix is actually mostly yours. I didn't do much after I got it back from you I don't think. A Jittery Trilogy it is, next up : Beat Project.

deep
man there is ALOT going on here but love the way every sound is distinct, no mud at all. really like the way the frantic percussion contrasts with the more laid back synth - gives the tune a multidimensional, deep feel. I hear U2 (pop phase) here also. Very cool.

Beaten to a pulp
Wow guys, this is pretty different for you! This has a great 90s edgy dance feel - I totally get the U2/pop comparison. There's bags of energy in this, and seemingly a mix of real (guitar?) and synth instruments. Of course, a wonderful clean mix as well.

sparse is the word
i like this a lot, the drum work throughout is fun, spot on, and inspired. the bass and guitar lines work well together and the synth/vocal textures push in and out naturally. someone mentioned it above, there is somehow still a lot of air in the mix, don't know how you did that! I would like to hear that bassline played a little more gnarly if anything.
the tune as a whole reminds me of the music used in the sim city games and it would be the perfect soundtrack to building a new business district! (and then explodiating it all with meteors and killer robots!)

i think
what I dig about your approach is you lay in what works. Very nicely at that. I assuming Sj did a bed and then you textured it up? kaleidoscope visuals poppin

This
originally started with a racerat bed that I chopped up and sent back. Phil and I have been playing together for so long, though, that things quickly begin to blend together; by the time it gets bounced, it can be very difficult to say exactly who did what.......

Glad you enjoyed it!

Bed
ktb,
Yup I think SJ is right. This one was my bed and I had to lay in it. Actually SJ did swoop in and chop it up, massaged a bunch of stuff, and now, as he says, we don't know where one ends and one begins. Thx for the listen none-the-less!--P

Refreshing
musical facet, somewhere located around the late 90ies Chemical Brothers or Apollo 440.

Nice collab!

I went to school for the fine arts, painting, and taught that for a while, but I am now a graphic design executive by day, and a musician most the rest of the time. I play guitar and bass mostly, do midi synth stuff, use drum machines ... [see more]
