Lyrics
over a dirty side walk
above the greasy spoon
there's a welfare mother
sleeping way past noon
Anollette was fading
behind the neon lights
every day she's praying
he'll make it home tonight
in this pink car nation
they hum a lullaby
Godisinhisheaven
everything is right
he's in his heaven.....
and the world keeps turning
her angel cut a tooth
she can't abide the yearning
on the avenue
anne,she aches like sin
at the bargin bin
at the super market
they still got the big spin
in this pink car nation
they hum a lullaby
Godisinhisheaven
every thing is right
he's in his heaven.......

Hi Feter
I did think of the boss among other artist, that is very intuitive of you. The picture is a restaurant in Sacramento Ca. I was hired to remodel an apartment in the same building, which I took as fairly coincidental...as always thanks , my friend.

good song
great songwriting, lyrics, chords and melody are right there.
the mix sounds perhaps a bit bass-heavy / boomy?
Notwithstanding that, a marvelous listen. Thanks for posting!

Thanks dude
I know just what you mean about the bass. I recently bought a bass and its fun to play, the bounce and rhythm are much better than a midi bass, but Im having trouble containing the tone of it,Hopefully soon I'll figure that out. Appreciate the comment a lot. Cheers

Performing
is fun. It's the reason I do this. If I can't sing at least I can perform, if you catch my drift. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, especially because I am so lax and lazy in that department.
Regards

Distilled the essence
My ears appreciate your whole approach here from the writing to the execution. Excellent repetition on the isinhisheaven part. This is just an excellent outing. Does he make it home? There's got to be a deep backstory on this one. I can imagine many more verses to this from which you've distilled the essence.

verse two (extended dance version)
"All the conversations
behind all the backs
he's deep inside the box cars
the track it don't go back
and the creeping charley
on the fire escape
she wonders if they'll meet up
at purgatories gate"

That was the verse that I removed because I thought
the song was too long and boring. Im guessing you wrote your own ending. Thanks for the kind and insightful words.

I like this a lot
The way the chords move around the pace and the low-key vocal are really very nicely done. Great set of lyrics too. I have a nit about the vocal though - what type of accent pronounces "heaven" as "heavOn"? Is that part of your accent, or something else? I have to admit that this started to really grate on me - then there are probably things about my accent that might grate on you too :)

The bass sounds like it needs some work regarding the sound (as you mention). I'd probably try to take out a little of the lower frequencies (say from 50 Hz down) with a low end filter then look at some compression - try the following settings for starters and see where that takes you: attack 4 - 10 ms, release 10ms, threshhold -2 to -10dB, ratio 8:1 and a hard knee. If you're using Logic, there are some really good bass settings there (I imagine there'd be some good ones in GB also). If you have the mid and high frequencies EQ'd down, I'd suggest they be brought up at least to the same level as the lower frequencies. A good bass sound needs nids and highs as well as bass frequencies - a common mistake by non-bass players is to think "it's called bass, so I only need to use bass end freqs".

Anyway, enough tech stuff. This is a really cool song and I like it a lot - it takes me to heavon ;)

Non bass player
That does describe me, but its a lot of fun trying.....I don't know why I pronounced the things they way I did, except I wanted all the syllables to be all mixed up and conglomerated, perhaps the sound more important than the meaning. I really don't think about it when I vocalize, I just try to let go and feel it. Heavone is not my normal manner of speech.....Thanks very much for the mixing advice, I'll make a preset from your suggestions and try it on the next one. I think the main problem with the bass tone on this one was I had the gain way too high on my interface, Im getting a much cleaner sound with lower levels. Thanks again for the detailed analysis, I appreciate it very much. Cheers
