100 Birds

Again another song in the English Folk style. This time it is a ballad. It is very much in the style on Anthony and the Johnsons (if only I had Anthony Hegarty's voice!). It is a very emotional song and I tried to put a lot of performance into it. It is not a perfect performance... but I think that is where the emotion comes from. It is all played and sung by me (using the top range of my voice and even some falsetto).

I really hope you enjoy it and PLEASE COMMENT!

One hundred birds,
Flew past her window,
Bristling with feathers,
That bristled like knives.

Oh, they fell,
Oh these birds fell to the ground,
And shots rang clear,
And all around,
That blood soaked heart in her chest did pound and

Birds flew up to meet the sky.

Icy groves stained red with red,
The blood brought rain and the ground it fed,

But still she watched as down it poured,
She caught a handfull of the ones that she saw,
With broken fingers at the window she did claw and

Birds flew up never to reach the sky.

Sun brought winter to an end.
Sun brought an ending to a friend.
Sun brought the morning light.
Sun made those birds take flight.

Birds fly up just to be shot back down.

I think
It reminded me more of Elton John than Anthony. The performance is really heartfelt and although I appreciate the range of your voice I think you used it better when It is controlled. For isntance, my favorite part is when you sing "Scream".Is such a great contrast because you whisper that very word. The lyrics are so good.I donĀ“t know why but this song also reminded me of the mysterious and hauting movie "Picnick at Hanging Rock".

I'm glad you liked it. The limitations of my voice are laid a bit bare on this track but what the heck. Thanks for commenting.

great playing
you can sure play the keys. You are far braver than I for pushing your vocal limits. I think you pull it off well though. I tried some falsetto on a recent song but had to pull it out because I botched it bad.
Nice lyrics.

I can see your voice has its own character itself ..thats lovely
on this ballad ..fit this song ...good usage of the strings ..but
you need more solos supporting your singing like an oboe and flute

Kind of the feeling of an art song
and it has a little of a showtune flavor, too. You could probably move into your falsetto voice sooner in those ascending passages. As a mezzo soprano who is becoming an alto, I felt my own vocal chords straining as you got into the top of your range. The accompaniment is spare, so there is no place to hide. Possibly tune it down a third. Lyrics are very powerful.

Great song. Getting inundated with good tunes today. I love the way your voice cracks when you reach for the sky so to speak... if you re-record it, at least leave that part in, it fits very well. But, as is, it's already good anyway!

there's something very britten about this..but at the same time right there up to the moment. your voice has excellent raw emotion elements to it...and with a bit of training could be amazing. love the sparseness of this....and the strings really contribute to the folk vibe. excellent creation.
