Description
Well here it is my first collaboration.
You’ll have to forgive me if I feel excitement like a kid in a candy store, over this work. This collaboration started out with just a simple chord structure and over several weeks evolved into what you hear now. Alan Brady, aka: (apb), as most of you know, has a tremendous musical talent. I knew he was talented from listening to his songs and this open my eyes to a whole new view of Alan. It amazed me how he took a meager ideal of mine and created this wonderful song out of it.
To begin, I sent him a basic guitar rhythm and chords played in front of a simple drum track. Alan grabbed hold of it and redid the guitars, bass and drums and added some piano. I was so inspired by his creation of sound that these lyrics came out. He then added his vocals to the song in the chorus and 2nd and 3rd verses. He has a great distinctive sound to his voice and I think our voices meshed very well. His harmonies blew me away. The finished product far surpasses any expectations I could have had. This is what happens when you put an American Scot and a native Scot in the same room. Never let it be said that Scottish men have no talent. The proof’s in the haggis.

My ideal behind the title Crossfire came from an ideal I had for a video or even a rock opera type song. In the opening, imagine a helicopter setting down in Afghanistan and soldiers burst from its hold and run to take cover in an urban battlefield. The first verse is sung by a soldier kneeling and frightened behind a building. In the chorus he sings and the soldier behind him harmonizes with him. In the second verse the camera moves up to a new soldier with a look on his face as if he were somewhere else and singing how his thoughts drift to home. In the third verse I pictured an large number of troops in the middle of the road with smoke all around them from a battle and they are all looking up to a crane shot at them and singing that verse together “No sun today…”(hence the numerous vocal tracks in that section) When the music slows we return to the original soldier with a look of sadness and despair as he gently sings the final chorus. In the end I envisioned a battle field with the victims of war, bloody on the ground and smoke floating about. No live persons and this would be at the end when the music fades to piano. Then, right at the end, the camera pans to show the original soldier staring off into the distance as if he were reflecting on what he had just been through.

This is my first collaboration and I am so happy it came out so well. I hope you all feel the same and please stop by Alan’s artist page and let him know what you think, as well.
I can’t thank him enough and I can’t say enough about my respect for him and his talent. I am impressed. Enjoy, Two Scots’ music everyone.

Lyrics
Cross Fire

(Soldier 1)
Spot lights and empty streets
So far away from home
Concrete walls and concrete falls
All in the name of peace

Chorus (Soldiers 1 and 2)

I'm caught in a cross fire
Between the war of love and hate
I'm caught in a cross fire
And I know love will never be too far away

(Soldier 2)
My thoughts always turn to home
And how long it's been for me
And how far do I have to go
And how far does it have to be

(A dozen + different soldiers)
No sun today as the black smoke fills the sky
No gardens to tend to there aren't any children at play
Well do I kill and do I maim in the name of piece
And will I have to take the blame in the end

Chorus (Soldier 1)

Love
the power and the harmonies - this is such a big sound. Some clipping perhaps, but maybe they're part of the guitar settings. That open hat on 1 gets a bit predictable, but otherwise this sounds great - like some big stadium rocker whose name escapes me.

Sweet collab guys
Sweet mixup. Sometimes I just don't know what to say, it's like I'd have to think about it for awhile. There is a LOT to think about here. Definitely touching on familiarity but in a great fresh way. To my ears I am reminded of some great songs by the Cure, U2, the Clash, and more. I really like this one. Thanks!

Monster collab!
Melting rock and roll burning all cyllinders.
The bombastic voice of the King and apb´s restrained voice reminds me of the duets between Gilmour and Waters!
