Description
I started this song about a month ago as Brooklyn was beginning to thaw and the crocuses were appearing in the garden. I laid down a syncopated drum track and jammed out the bass groove. Lately I've been starting with bass instead of guitar. Two guitar tracks came next and then the drums were redone. I kept hearing a saxophone. That's when I enlisted the help of Andy (awigze). He graciously accepted the invitation and sent out four files that I played back simultaneously and the effect was exhilarating - but a bit overwhelming - like a battle of the Fela Kuti's. I did a mix and sent it off, whereupon Andy felt his tone was slightly flat and could be better with a new reed.
So a week or two later three new tracks arrived and I think he really nailed it. He did two rhythm tracks (one of which I doubled - with one down an octave to play as baritone) and a great flowing solo track. He sent his tracks clean and we discussed reverb and delay as a few mixes went back and forth resulting in what you're hearing now. I had great time working with Andy - he's a fine player and a wonderful human being.

I really enjoyed working with the song. It brought a great deal of
fun and pleasure into the Wigzell household for a few days. It was
really my first collaboration that has been submitted here at Macjams
that included my sax playing. I wanted to get it right - or close to
right, anyway. I am sure my persnickitiness plagued Bud to no end...
he was happy to oblige and tolerated my many delays with
understanding. Only one who works with many primadonnas can endure
this. I mean after all I am kind of new here and you know how it is
when you get to hang out with one of the cool kids. We spoke on the
phone even and I feel like I now have a friend in Brooklyn. very
encouraging.
Andy plays a Cannonball Black Nickel Stone Series Tenor Saxophone. (A lot like
Kicbal plays) About 2 years old.
I forgot to ask Andy how he recorded his sax - it sounds amazing.
I played my usual Ibanez Road Star II bass and Danelectro 59DC guitar.
Thanks to SmokeyVW for giving this a critical listen before mastering.
