Promises Broken

 Genre: Metal

A progressive-death track that I've been working on. I've been concerned about the production values.. Comments, thoughts, suggestions. Remember, it gets metal, there's just a long intro.

A break - in the still and silence pulls me back from a dream,
Broken nails and sadness fleeting from her sweet little eyes,

C'mon and listen to me, look me in the eyes, know that I mean only what I say

I've dreamed of this day for so long,
Holding hands and walking away..

C'mon and listen to me, look me in the eyes, know that I mean only what I've said,
I've watched you for so long, now we're finally here, time is growing short and I will calm your fears...

Now follow me away,
Into the night we'll go — never to be found again,
The place it's not so far,
Your home it's not so deep — but hiding we will be,
A new life we will have,
A place where we belong — somewhere out beyond the stars...

Now we will return, the place of my fathers,
Where nothing has grown for many years,
I'll show you down into the darkness,
And hold you and your fears down..
We'll hold you down...

The innocence that's nagged me, shall leave you to drown,
Those clear blue eyes, so sweet, have driven me to this..
The young perfection embodies what I can't be,
Stricken from the world my form so twisted to your beauty..

I've broken this again,
But I can't help myself,
It tears me deep from inside,
I've broken this again,
But I can't help myself,
I am an animal..

The blood is on my hands, how can I get it off?

C'mon and listen to me, look me in the eyes,
Know that I mean only what I've done...
I've watched you for so long,
Now you're finally here..
Time is growing short and I've become your fears..

Like the syncopation
I have always been a fan of syncopation. Kind of a dream theater sort of thing. I would consider this closer to alternative or rock than metal. Nice work.

revised comments
Ahh you were the one in the forum. I think you did about as well as you could with the mic you had. Also, I can see this falling under metal upon another listen. The last part gets heavier. Welcome to MJ

This is sounding
pretty good to me. Obviously a better mic would improve the vocal sound - like your voice. Although I am not really a fan of that grunting metal vocal sound, I much preferred your earlier vocal.
Production and panning sounds good. Could maybe benefit from a mastering boost - try out some of the presets in the master track settings in GB or look at third party plug-ins (I use Oxygen 4). Hope this helps and welcome to Macjams.

Great Track!!!!
I really dig the metal, so it's good to have someone else on here who does as well. I liked everything about the track, my only suggestion would be to have the drums come up a bit. Other than that, keep rockin'!!!

Metal! \m/
I'm glad you dug it! There is a sad lack of metal on here. I'll be posting (and working on) more later. :)

right then ....
apocafunk is an artist you might be interested in here. so pretty good advice so far on the mixing process and yes a good mic will help. Just something to try till you address the mic situation. ... try duplicating the vocal track and playing with some eq to fatten up the sound. Really nice work.

my two bits... i really liked the song. musically, it has alot going for it. the beginning riff is killer. the way it is played shows the amount of practice you put into this and your level of talent. i dont think i could do that riff....
the begining vocals were far better than the later stuff. i am a fan of metal, but not too much of the cookie monster stuff. i know there is a huge market for it, so i indeed respect what you are doing with fusing the two styles. but for me, i think they are way too different to mix succesfully.
a tip for vocals: in GB there are some really good presets for vocals. the hard rock male is a good place to begin, as it has a decent high eq, and a good slap delay, that makes vocals fuller. after that, you can play around with color, like some chorusing for effect, and different levels of delays and reverbs. i personally try to stray far from soaking vocals in reverb. that said, adding delays can get messy too. one thing i notice when mixing, is to ramp up the delayu a little bit more than you would think, because it gets swallowed a little in the overall mix. you dont specify what rig you use, or drums. more info can allow some of us macjammers to give you more tips.
these are great songs, and i look forward to hearing alot more. you are my new favorite artist here!
