Me and My Voodoo Monkey Dust Shine

 Genre: Rock

This is a re-mix. A song about the sarcastic portrayal of my aspiring musical career. The major opposition I always encountered was agreeing on a band name. I named this song from a consolidation of 3 local bands I had some kind of connection with during that time. "Me and My Monkey"+"Voodoo Monkey Dust"+"Monkey Shine"="Me and My Voodoo Monkey Dust Shine".

So I heard you want to join a rock'n roll band
Better drop a bunch of dough get a guitar stand
Got a friend who will help he's gonna fit the bill
come on Bring your stuff on over got a garage to fill
When all is said and done we're gonna have some...fun

Me and my voodoo monkey dust shine
Me and my voodoo monkey dust shine
Me and my voodoo monkey dust shine
Monkey does shine...

There's another problem haven't got a name
Gosh what would we call us hope it isn't lame
Maybe some one could draw it on a banner that sells
Name us after a mammal or maybe something that smells
Think I got if figured out were gonna name it...

Call your friends on over there is plenty of beer
Plenty of songs to learn none from bands you hear
Should have charged a cover at the driveway door
Made a pretty penny man! we could have scored
Hey that didn't really matter no ones under the...gun

Shredding out some leads drummer beating on the drums
Singers throat is soar think he's blown another lung
Bass players never here I think he's come and gone
Someone said he's at large or maybe having some fun
Anyway it didn't matter we just made it...do

Smoking guitar John! Really nice tone. Are you mic'ing your amp or is that direct? Nice bass line and vocals also. The vocal level seems a bit hot and I'm not crazy about the wide panning of the chorus. Could just be me though! Overall nice remix John!

The last time I posted this someone suggested that the song needed to be wider. I get where you are coming from. I believe I went overboard on the vocals and should have worked on the music bed alone. The guitar is run direct, I'm using a Guitar Rig 2 setting. Thanks for the pointers and I'm glad you liked it.

That's sounds awesome for a direct guitar John! Experiment with the panning on the vocals a bit. They sounded like they were the only things on the edge of either side. Maybe just bring them in a bit and see how it sounds. It's definitely different sounding. You're the production master John!

Very fun tune. Love the energy, the lyrics. The guitar solo wanders around at times without melodic focus, and the vocals seem a tad forward/loud compared to the rest of the mix, but the song and track is very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm a self taught guitar player who started playing at the age of 13. I mix my guitar progressions together, add lyrics and from that point I'll search for vocal melodies. The music I write is about life experiences and some about random subject mat... [see more]
