NECAP Test song

Description
A while back, the principal at the school where I teach asked me to write a song which would encourage our students to do well on our Indiana standardized test, called the ISTEP test. So I did, and we have used the song many times in the last few years. The kids and the teachers seem to like it. I posted the ISTEP song here on MJ a few years ago, here:
http://www.macjams.com/song/12992

Last week, a principal in New England e-mailed me, and said that she found my ISTEP song while looking for a song to motivate her students to do well on their standardized test, the NECAP test. (Stands for New England something something something.) She asked me to re-do the song but swap NECAP for ISTEP. So I did, and here's the result. I even got paid! A win-win. I love music.

Very cool...
John Stebbe — Randy Newman.... a marriage made...??? Glad to hear your original was picked up by another district in another area. You've written a wonderful little inspirational tune that's easy to sing and remember, and your lyrics fit the topic so well, too. Bonus: John Stebbe singing! Now THAT was a welcomed surprise. Bravo! Of course, the J.S. panache at the keyboard is NOT a surprise at all, just a welcomed inevitability. Hey, thanks for posting this, John. It's a very cool number.
Peace.
Paul

I liked it before-
and it does the job here, too. Our tests are the WKCE (Wisconsin Knowledge and Competencies Examination), and are being phased out in the next couple of years for something that will be, I'm sure, just as exciting and meaningful as tests can be (heavy irony intended there).
I like your win-win situation! Good going!

Thanks, K
Thanks, Kristy. Yes, I get the irony! Reminds me of a SNL skit from the 70s, with Jane Curtin and Donald Sutherland called "Heavy Sarcasm." Very funny.

And maybe there will be a whole new generation
of Jazz aficionados after being motivated by this snappy little number. Bright and fun, and your touch on the ivories is wonderful.

Thanks John,
Doug

$plendid!
Hi John! This is crystal clear in performance and mix, and eminently focused on the task. What next? Is CDC looking for a tune to motivate citizens to get the swine flu vaccine? $$$ure, why not?!

NECAP
I love that you were able to use your musical abilities for a fun advertisement at school. The words have a brainwashing quality. I hope it works. Terrific piano.

A Similar Story
During this school year I collaborated with my school's music teacher to write, arrange, and record our own FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test) song. I was debating whether or not to post it until I came upon yours. You've inspired me. I think maybe I will.

Love your jazz trio arrangement!

Just saw...
... that the # next to your name in the "Who's Online" section indicates that you've been here for 5 years (60 months). Happy MJ birthday!

And what a song we have here... always a pleasure to listen to your piano pieces and arrangements. Sounds awesome!

NECAP test ....sounds a bit like Kneecap test which sounds a bit like kneecapping ......or is it my nasty, furtive but imaginative mind....or just me ? Just never play it in N.I or Eire that's all I'm saying ,lol

Nice piece of music and singing by the way !
