Alex Vachon Improvisation No. 6

Here's another installment of the the Under the Piano session with Alex Vachon. This was the final improvisation from his session.

Alex is a filmmaker. He is passionate and imaginative, and yes, if you listen carefully, that is him singing along with the improvisations I created as he lay under my grand piano. Here is his description of the experience:

Dear Craig:

As I lied down on the silk pillows, under the piano, a sense of goodness and peace, not unlike when you step in a cathedral, permeated me. Here, under a roof of thick wooden beams going in all directions, I felt as if I could hide and be completely myself, whoever that is.

Such confinement, such freedom, suspended, between earth and heaven.

Time came to a stand still. Silence. I knew of a rendez-vous taking place.

Then you open the floodgates. A river of vibrations swept my entire body. You made me feel connected with an instrument, a vibrational device that transformed every sensation into sweetness and passion.

Past, present and future disappeared. Traumatic events, joy, beauty, love all swept in one full wave of energy, then another wave, and another, the river kept me going strong. What a ride! I didn't want it to end. All is beautiful. All is well.

Thank you Craig Addy for your Art.

Andante Movement
Generally, not always, I intentionally create the final improvisation of an Under the Piano session as a gentle and meditative finish to the session. I also create an abundance of slow introspective music - I can't help myself - it's just what I do.

thnx alot for listnin !!!!

Hello Karen,

I'm delighted that you enjoyed this. I have listened to a number of your contributions and am most impressed indeed.

The piano is my 5' 10" Kawaii Grand piano. It is the KG-2 model. Past attempts to record my acoustic piano had been disappointing until my music partner introduced me to his Zoom H2n Handy Recorder about 3 months ago. I got my own and upgraded to the H4n, which is a little more convenient to operate. Because these recordings are done on the fly when my Under the Piano clients come, it is critical that recording be very simple. The H4n certainly has supplied that simplicity. 2 pushes of a button and I am recording.

Ok had some time
Now I can type. This is my fav of the pieces you have posted so far. Please stay with the piano for the recordings. Sounds SOOOO much better. I know this is the real piano from the tone. Love the full sound of it. Amazing how you create this out of thin air so flawlessly and beautifully.

Real Piano
I agree. You are a man after my heart for liking the real piano. I just wish the real piano would stay in tune! It's not too bad here, but I have some improvs that I'm really thrilled with but are just too far out of tune to be usable for a final recording. I'll probably share some of the more creative ones anyhow.

I've been listening to your tracks this evening and have enjoyed each and every one. No small accomplishment for piano improvisations!

Thanks for sharing your music with us.

It seems we live in a world that has largely forgotten the value of beauty. But beauty is important. Beauty is invaluable because in the presence of beauty we are transported into the moment. In that moment all our fear, anxiety, anger and concern di... [see more]
