That Mulder
type bell has kept me listening to this great piece as it steps further and further into the unknown with those giant bass steps. Love the 'Lost Wonderment' feel of it and then of the violins when they come in. The brasses bring a friendlier lighter touch that brings familiarity as though we've travelled to familiar places.... the vocals though give a feeling of warning, enjoyed this, regards M

Thanks Maurice,
I always thought that Mulder guy was pretty spacey. Glad you enjoyed it my friend.

I am getting
a dream sequence vibe - love the choirs and the wonderful changes you always inject into your music. (Always a hint of West Side Story drama too.) I can see how it relates to a space theme too.
The picture looks a bit like a face.
You always take me somewhere else Charlie, great stuff.
Cheers
Len

Thanks Len,
I was born on the west side - well actually a few blocks east of it - and it's never far from my musical roots.

Charlie

Express
A nice Sci Fi track.
Great mix of sounds, I like the way the strings enter into the song, and that wild brass is a big surprise. I hear some "Gustav Holst" too . . .

Thanks scaustrita,
I love Holst and to be in the same building with him is an honor. And about the brass I recall you know a thing or two about that as well.
Cheers,
Charlie

Thanks Feter,
I kept putting off this challenge until a couple of days ago when I challenged myself to put something up before it ended.
It's rushed but I'm glad I did and if it pleases some people including you my friend, I'm happy.
Cheers,
Charlie

Great composition skills at work here. Much enjoyed. There's a real sense of impending danger and mystery as it closes out, and it seems to be leading to something new. It could have gone on. But, yes, it was a race.

Never take a holiday while bowman is composing
Another sense of foreboding on this one Charlie. This is both spacey but is kind of like psychological inner space as well.

Legato strings have a wonderful dynamics as they dance with the synth in the right channel. And then this sax orchestra unexpectedly floats through like a marching band. The remaining trumpets seem to say that something has changed. We're not in Kansas any more Toto. The choir would indicate a peaceful resolution of where we have arrived, but this time I don't get the sense that it;s safe or that we're really done with the adventure.

Lots of good imagery here. If I were continuing to work on this in your place I would look at what I wanted the sax interlude to say with respect to the unique feelings of the spaces you introduce before and after them and see if it is coming through as you intend.

A lot of work here and I don't know how you can produce it with this quality and care so quickly.

Thanks Charlie!

As
usual you touch upon may good points. This work was literally slammed together for the challenge and was produced on instinct rather than by a thought out process. This of course is liberating but can leave many unanswered questions. I do know that the sax orchestra came to me as a wandering irreverent totally unexpected traveler. Something silly and a reminder not to take ourselves and our journey too seriously.
I've been tweaking this some and changed the dynamics some making the entrance and exits of the wanderer subtler. But as you suggest there may more possibilities to explore in its relationship to the stately outer movements.
Thanks so much Doug for taking the time to listen and for you thoughtful and insightful comments.
Best,
Charlie

march of space drones
the repeated string rhythm through this holds it all together, as a march rhythm. the strange chords, the sudden cacophony of the brilliant parade of sax, the brasses at the end, it is all dazzling, unique, and creates images in the mind... just what you were trying to do. thank you for adding your splashes of color to the spacerace mix, charles. excellent sprinting.
