Description
Many, many years ago, long before sonicmagpie became experimental, ambient gurus there was a period of time when they were a part of the Philly Soul scene (famously referred to by David Bowie as 'plastic soul' when he was making Young Americans)

Bryn and Cat spent many hours recording and singing as part of the original 'Salsoul Orchestra' .

Recently an unreleaed sonicmagpie acetate was unearthed - recorded in October 1975 - here is the public unveiling of the never heard before 'Unlimited'. We have included the original mix from the acetate. There is also an extended mix, co-produced by Winston Smith from The Leonids which was going to be a 12" single.

music - by sonicmagpie and the salsoul orchestra
vocals - mystified
vocals - particledots

HEY!
That label says 'Mono'.... This is STEREO... and believe me, I'm experienced at these things, and I know stereo when I hear it... And I paid for a whole EP's worth of clicks and pops, thank you very much...

Nevertheless, since it has such a funky bassline, AND since it gets fully experimental and weird in the middle, I'm going to consent to KEEP my free download... I will even dance to the slowed down bit with the neo-soul-madrigal, although I may be doing irreparable spinal damage...

Gosh, you two have fun together, don't you?

Ed

they did a lot of misprints in those days
and sometimes mis-pressings too
i can remember once going to buy Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols when it was released on EMI records. When I got home it was actually Cliff Richards - even tho the label said sex pistols - I shoulda kept it, maybe would have been worth even more than the original Anarchy...

Glad you you liked this Ed

It 'was' great fun to do

A Vintage from the 70s with all the plastic
colors and foggy shady screens pictures all
the vocal is amazing applied with great great
effect ...the bass and the drums with all the
70s strings like so authentic ..nice track ..
I just couldnt understand the noise behind ..
found it really unnecessary to the time and
sound ..but maybe this is just me ...awesome
job Sonic-magpie ...thnx alot for sharin !!!!

holy smokes - it's 2 songs (or more) in one! i thought it had ended there at about midpoint - i had my eyes closed listening, but i'd remembered the label said 6:24, so opened my eyes to peek. just as i did that, song #2 came in - wow, so so cool - i love that part. this is pure sonic magpie, in all it's glory - great work to you both - i very very much enjoyed this! (right to the very very last little piano outtro)

plush interior...
& tinted windows;the seats recline. Smooth ride around the night city--unlimited mileage. Journey to the outskirts, strange Mexican radio, fog rolling in from the bay. All the while, I'm enjoying the ride.

Well posted, el grupo.

This has ......
.. a lovely '70's reminiscence about it ..... somewhere I think I have just the right outfit to wear while swaying ...... and well then ..... I had to change my outfit (temporarily) .... only to change it back again ..... when the MUSICAL came on ..... it's "ARETHRA" .... "JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR" ... and "HAIR" all rolled into ONE !!!!!

Just gorgeous soul, Marvin is smiling, this is A A A. The soundtrack for America! Dam that gal has a pretty voice, the slightest horn figure dancing with her voice and endomorphins appear...

You warned me
This really is sweet, I really dig that bass line, and your efforts in the mix really paid off.

those are crazy cool "echo" responses at the middle to kick back in to a change of pace

Thanks, I got my free copy!

Enjoyed
Nice vocal performance(s) along with excellent mix, as could be expected. I even bought the clicks and pops for this one, even if I'm usually not a fan of that. Thanks for the download. Take care.

I'm from Philly and I remember hearing
this as a bootleg waiting on line for my Bowie at the Tower Theater tickets. Kept searching the cutout bins for years after and never struck gold - now here it is in all it's glory. Dope remix - killer track - golden pipes - and deep pots on the board man. Worth the wait.

Lush, Plush
and sophisticated comes to mind listening to these songs, very original while still reminiscent of the 70's..... I get a distinct 'Manhattan Transfer' singing to a Barry White orchestra kind of feel, with the vocals and harmonies in the second part..... top sounds; just wish I knew how you do it always, cheers M

Very pretty.
I like the chirpy sound in the first cut and all the bounciness. The second cut is like an easy, jazzy thing with that ethereal chorus and more of that delightful chirp. Happy sounds. Thanks.

dreamy retro goodness
but not really retro, it is like faux-plastic-retro, which whips around to be futuristic before your very eyes. But that first song had faint wafts of an upbeat Portishead (in the soundbed)? Cat's vox in this are great, as always (yours too Bryn.) The music is really just unclassifiably your own, which is very classy. Love the shuffle-beat in the second piece. And great artwork on this too, I can smell the plastic sleeve.

Scratching the Philly.
Love the record center! Nice photoshop work!!!
Lovely record scratching sounds.
Okay, to be fair the drum machine wasn't in heavy use until the early 80's, so I guess Sonic Magpie was way ahead of their time.
I like this groovy trip, like eating a Philly cheese steak sandwich.
I'm with Ed, this is not MONO...!!!
