Song Description

space is really big. time is really big. considered together they are astounding!

it takes about one hundred thousand years for light to get across our galaxy.

it takes about two hundred forty million years for our sun to orbit our galaxy.

Hi Smokey VW......
I like your thoughts here in the description.

The piece of music takes me on some of the same journey that light has travelled and will travel.

Take care.

this started out as an experiment in slowness. as it developed, the ideas of outer space and meditation came into play.

thank you

The slowness
really does give the impression of vastness here and the voices and bass add to the wonder of it all with the changing of the chords..... it's quite a meditational piece, since you can get lost in the spaces, wondering what notes or planets come next..... marvelous how you can hold people's interest with something as slow moving as this, but it works and works really well.... quite an epic and quite beautiful, cheers M

wow, thank you. i was experimenting with another extreme this time. it took a while working out the chords and arpeggiations - there are three different sections, each with different chord patterns, 6 chords in each. it is in 7/4 time throughout at 40 bpm.

Whoa - this is big
and beautiful - inspirational and cool too. DL'd for further enjoyment. What bit rate did you end up using to get this length - the sound quality is really very good? Must have been below 128.

i find it to be a nice meditation piece for myself

thanks

bit rate is 80kbps - i was surprised i got away with it - usually things like drums and cymbals get swishy at that rate - but there is no percussion in this song - the reverb does get rather clobbered however - and it's a but mushy sounding

a higher fidelity version is available here, at least for now

And...
...a Monarch Butterfly's life span averages between 2 weeks to 9 months...

Suggesting to me that time is relative to the species...

...and I bet the mega humongous giant (named Ralphie) (who is unwittingly letting us live on his unwashed foyer window pane) can walk over that galactic span on his way to the store to buy milk...

You know, Smokey...I'm listening to this as I type the above drivel and very much getting into it. You mentioned awhile back that you were starting lessons in composition. This is really fine...whatever you've been doing, it's working really well...

:)

the idea of scale (of size) is really hard to fathom. delving into the microworld is equally awe-inspiring.

no lessons yet, but it's on my radar.

thanks

i worked on this song for a few hours over 2 days. first was working out an A, B and C section - each is loopable and can seque into the other sections. that took me the most time to do.

to arrange this song, i bumped the beats per minute from 40 to 240. first I set the sequence of the sections. the song ended up playing in about 7 minutes speeded up.

then i went through and removed lots of parts from each section in an attempt to get variety and an ebb and flow, doing it mostly visually, but sort of hearing it in my head too.

i played it totally through once at real speed and noted some divots. then i went back and fixed a few things.
