Description
While working at a studio on a solo CD project, I got the idea for this tune. It wasn't on the docket, but we took four hours today and tracked it with real drums, etc.Not really mixed yet, but it's a holiday song and well, the clock's ticking.

John Whitehead, songwriter, lead vocals, guitars & mandolin

Lyrics
It’s Snowing All Over the World

Sky’s pink and gray tonight,
The weather’s turning soon
Cloud ships under full sail
Are racing past the moon
First flakes are falling now
Like iridescent pearls
Satellite and radar say
It’s snowing all over the world

In the Favelas of Rio
On the coastline of Japan
In Europe and the Russian steppe
and the hills of Pakistan

Guns and rocket launchers
Are locked away tonight
Roads aren’t fit for passing,
No one’s spoiling for a fight
Families come together
And warming fires are lit
No one’s goin’s hungry,
Every stranger’s asked to sit

Los Angles, Mombassa,
Perth and London, too
In Bangkok and In Bucharest
Brooklyn and Peru

Firelight is twinkling
In the eyes of boys and girls
A blanket lays on the ground,
It’s snowing all over the world
Snowflakes like saucers fly
The sky is all a-swirl
The satellite and radar say
It’s snowing all over the world

I like it...
It started out so clean then something came in (perhaps a distorted guitar) that I didn't feel fit in. It sounds like overdrive distortion. When your vocals came in it went away. Then after the vocals I can hear that it was a melody guitar... I'd clean that up a little bit or put a tighter fuzz on it. As it sounds now it takes away from the crisp feel to this song.

Excellent work!

it's snowing
i listen and write. great upbeat intro. grat colourful lyrics as always...chorus reminds me of ian dury's hit me with your rhythm stick lyrics. by the way...it never snows in london around xmas...any more. i wanted you to get tilt-a-whirl in there to rhyme with swirl...you know...in a post-modern self-referential way.

Wish I couldn't relate
The motherlode seems like north dakota lately..... Rhythm section a bonus,
the mandolin adds a nice sparkle, and your voice sounds great with a bit of grit. I am hearing a little 60's pop sneaking in. (maybe in the guitar riff) You're on a roll.

This is a cool one, John...
Well written and well played...

A nice idea behind it all, well crafted lyrics... I think the drumming is deceptively good... All well recorded.... I like the little bit of dirt in the electric guitar against the clean acoustic and mandolin...

Cool sentiment
It seems like such a simple idea, but the execution is so far off. The music on this is great. Again I'm getting a Steve Earle vibe. Though your voice is much clearer. the guitar chops are subtle but really help give it that vibe. Especially the descending part.

Not ALL over the world :)
It's hot and sultry here (and in Bangkok and Perth I suspect) John but I know what you mean. Nice tune, well played and recorded. It will be nice to hear this with some sparkle on the mix - I think you have the balances down pretty well though. Great post!

Nice song John
has little Steve Earle feel which I like. You guys are a really good sounding outfit - very versatile. Good set of lyrics and delivery too.

well they tell me we're going to have a white Christmas. Back to business - a very attractive song with everything in it's right place and vocals perfect and clear.

What a great, gentle holiday song
I'd also love to hear the final mix: the tracks all sound great and I can imagine that when you get to spend some time on the mix it will be that much better. My pop sensibilities ask for high harmony vocals later in the song, but it's lovely as is.

I like it!
I actually think the distorted guitar works, it kind of reminds me of Big Star in a way. And the mandolin makes it mroe holidayish. Nice work!

Cloud ships under full sail
This song is instantly accessible and easy to kick back and take in. Nice guitar work under the straight ahead vocals. I love the imagery in the lyrics and the hopeful sentiments they express. Let's keep hoping....

For some reason I could hear Neil Young singing this song.

Keep well!
Doug

this is very good
excellent production, top notch, catchy/hooky and coming from Minnesota man you must be pretty darn familiar with snow I'd hazard a guess. (Blame 'Prairie Home Companion' my guilty pleasure).

Love the authentic feel going on here, and uber-cool lead break, super track!

Snowing
This is very nice. I particularly like your lyrics. The guns and rocket launchers is a nice touch. I like the electric guitars and organs quite alot but I don't care too much for the mando. Seems like the mando isn't obviously a mando prior to the break possibly due to mic position?

Nice one John

..enjoyed this. I'd bring the vocals up a smidge- got a nice lilt and phrasing: reminded me a little of Ivan Dando (The Lemonheads) but a little more mellow and subdued.

I like the idea
but don't like the distortion I hear on the one guitar. Personal preference. Your stuff is always so clean. That just didn't fit for me.
