Eternal Return (updated!)

Description
I wrote this song in 2006 at the tender age of 17. It has a special place in my heart...it was one of the first full songs that I wrote and it is the first that I felt truly proud of. It's rather long but new riffs and parts are introduced throughout so it shouldn't be too painful!

Update: I have remixed and revised just about every note in here. Everything sounds better...added some instruments and altered some parts just barely. Enjoy!

so my great math skills tell me you are NOW at the tender age of 20? (maybe 21?) - this is some awesomely good music for one so young - can't imagine what you'll be doing by the time you're .. um ... my age! Seriously, fabulous work, i'm so glad you've found your way to MJ!

You rock the keys
This is really well constructed man! I love the drum arrangement. Its so dark and eerie yet beautiful. It reminds me a bit of the music in the video game Doom, which kicks ass. Great composition i'm impressed. By the way, what do you use to create your drum arrangements?

I use EZ drummer to process the drums. Usually when I write drums I use Guitar Pro and then transfer the midi to garage band. Thanks for listening!

Got a lot of heart and soul. Very dynamic. Enjoy the high notes. It is really a great piece with a lot of twists and turns. Thanks.

Prog Rock
This is far more prog rock than my installment - even with the furious double bass drum rolls. Very complex composition. I hear shades of Rush and Gentle Giant here. Finding some vocals I think would be great. Perhaps a MJer would volunteer if you are not into singing. If I were to give a suggestion - vary the velocity on your repeated piano chords so the sound less mechanical. Unless, of course you want that. I've also had some success running piano through distortion. Have a good day and thanks for listening to my song. Oh and - if you like music like you wrote here check out Fabio Napodano - he's excellent. http://imisound.ning.com/profile/It_Alien

Piano Velocity
I have actually be trying to work on the piano velocity a bit. I'm not into that mechanical sound really...I did lighten it up considerably in the middle piano section, and I'll look into the piano distortion thing. Thanks for listening!

Your 'drummer'
has bionic feet!
I love midi, and the marriage of midi and prog (your synths sound great, btw) here is really great. I'm intrigued by your method, too. This was a very satisfying find today. Thank you.

my drummer
is quite the machine isn't he? I'm glad you liked the synth sounds, I've really been trying to capture those classic synth tones in GB. Thanks for listening!

Eternal
Very impressive! For some reason this song brought back memories of Edgard Winter Band's (Johnny's) song - Frankenstein and the appeal and cult following it had. Wow...throwing in a Baroque styling in there is an unexpected surprise. You are really going to go places Michael Fioretti.

Johnny Winter
Oh...thanks for remembering Johnny Blues is my bro, though the song I'm talking about "Frankenstein" is by an old group The Edgard Winter Group...I think that's right(?) macjammer's help? Johnny Winter (Edgar's brother) who was part of the group played a moog synthesizer (can't recall the name of it) that looks like a guitar with a keyboard. Johnny Winter performed here in Seattle at the Backstage theatre in Ballard some years back...pretty awsome. I believe brothers are albino and quite a sight to behold with their white hair, white eyelashes, and pale skin.

whoops
I misread your comment -- I'm very familiar with both brothers, Johnny and Edgar. I just thought your brother had recorded a cover. Edgar pretty much pioneered the whole strapping a synth to your back thing. Both brothers are albino and they are definitely a sight to see!

I love the insane drumming -
talk about double kick - that's crazy - but it works really well. All around a very enjoyable listen. Very impressive.

Kick drums
Glad you liked it -- some people don't really dig the constant double bass. I think once I get some guitars in there hitting the power chords it'll fit a lot better.

what a drive
It was Kevin (bud) who lead me to your song. I'm quite impressed. That hammering bass drum, those vintage synth sounds, the whole composition. I'm imagining experiencing this song as a live act. What a hell of a drive. Splendid track, mate.

ELP' Wakeman
Do not fight it ! ! espesh the synth..does me good, spot on track ...I love guitar but....I don't think this needs guitar ..possibly more synth voice..p'raps a different pad maybe to the one you have used as the main vox at the beginning.....cracking track tho'

synths
I'll certainly consider adding a pad in the beginning; I really like that idea and I've been experimenting with adding pads to add ambience and atmosphere. Thanks for the comments.
