Far, Far Away on Judea's Plains

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This is pulled from the LDS hymnbook. Originally penned by John Macfarlane in 1869. I've always loved the old school hymns. No school like the old school. Think Weezer at the ward Christmas social.

I actually worked on the mix more than I have on any other tune. I'd like to hear the nit picking. Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas!

Lyrics
Far, far away on Judea's plains
Shepherds of old heard the joyous strains
Glory to God, Glory to God
Glory to God in the highest
Peace on Earth, goodwill to men.

Lord with the angels we too would rejoice
Help us to sing with the heart and voice
Glory to God, Glory to God
Glory to God in the highest
Peace on Earth, goodwill to men.

Sweet are the strains of redeeming love
Messsage of mercy from heaven above
Glory to God, Glory to God
Glory to God in the highest
Peace on Earth, goodwill to men.

Hasten the time when from every clime
Men shall unite in the strains sublime
Glory to God, Glory to God
Glory to God in the highest
Peace on Earth, goodwill to men.

my new favorite lennon tune
dude this is outrageously good. forget weezer this has so much more heart than weezer. your voice is in top form. love the bridge to the chorus too.

mix is great. big cymbals, creative panning of the guitars in the chorus. my only suggestion is to split the rhythm guitars on the verse and pan one at a lower volume and off time by a smidge to widen the sound.

i think you should do a sufjan type thing and make an effort to record all the hymns in the book.

A new fav
Thanks for your comments and suggestions! Never thought about adjusting the timing to thicken up the guitar sound. I'll definitely give that a shot.

There are many hymns I'd like to / probably will cover. The whole hymn book sounds like a bit much - especially when I have hundreds of my own tunes I have yet to record. :)

Disturbing The Peace On Earth
From that first drum break and the feedback in the intro, I knew that this was gonna be good. I'll have to admit though, you are guilty of Disturbing The Peace On Earth with this rocker.

Serious vocal harmonies and a perfect mix.

Your version has become my favorite Christmas song!

Thanks Eric!

Merry Christmas!

Rock and roll Christmas
Hooray for disturbing the peace on earth. Hey, even the big guy got all Led Zeppelin on the moneychangers, so why can't I get my rock on?

You are my favorite Christmas song.

this is great, your chops are getting better and better. love the indie sound of this one. nice harmonies too. great arrangement, now hurry: go find an agent to place this in a xmas movie release for next year.

too lazy
to find any agents. :). Thanks for the compliment on the chops. Vocal tracks are still lacking clarity. I think I need to get better using EQ and probably need a new mic. The one I use is old and not necessarily the best. Thanks!

Exceptional!!!!
Wish I'd heard this before Xmas--this is terrific. Harmonies, vocals, guitar arrangement--all great. Without exaggeration, I think this is the best rock reimagining of a traditional hymn I've ever heard.

Disturbing The Peace On Earth
After all these years this is still my absolute all time favorite Christmas tune ever.

My family rocked it this weekend as we decorated the tree. I woke up with it in my brain this morning and ran 3 miles as a result of it. I even let a car pull out in front of me on the way to work. Everything was beautiful until NPR did a "special report" on Hanson's MMMBop song from the 90's. Now I'm seeking a powerful emetic.

Eric, you rock man. If ever I was going to be in a band with other people that rocked, you'd be one of the first dudes I'd call. I think I have a name for our band too. You can sing and play guitar. Now all we need is a redneck to sing and play guitar and we'll be famous!

Peace on Earth with the Little People!!
