Description
Italian Concertino for Clarinet and Strings
II. Marzo funereo

I've pretty much given up writing music, so I have nothing new to post. Instead, here's one of my older pieces (written in 2006) that at that time I didn't consider good enough to post -- my B-material. Not that it's crummy music, and I hope you enjoy it, but I just can't bear letting it sit in some folder, unheard forever. This is the second movement of a suite I wrote for clarinet and strings, and I tried for an Italian sound to the music.

Giuseppe Garibaldi was the revolutionary leader of the Italian Risorgimento. His followers wore red shirts. He also spent time in South America leading armies in civil wars there. This music depicts the procession of the Red Shirt veterans in Milan commemorating his death on 2 June, 1882

As always, the sheet music for this piece can be printed for a token fee at
My SibeliusMusic web page.

The orchestral string sounds were designed by Steve Martin, a far more talented and original composer than I could ever hope to be.

I hear this as an aria ..very large and perfectly
written ..the strings making wonderful waves
under the clarinet which with sorrow weep a very
bitter passages here and there ..a very lyrical

Very
much has the Italian sense of pathos and drama. I enjoyed this and think it would be even more effective with a better sounding lead (Organ? Flute?).
Best,
Charlie
