Description
I'm trying to learn more of the ins and outs of Logic--so this song about an annoying friend-of-a-friend turned into a synth-pop indulgence. Mixed and "mastered" on headphones so I make no promises about the mix!

Lyrics
DANIELLE WANTS TO BE YOUR FRIEND

She’s too old for the parties
But she still goes
For the loud conversation
And the skintight clothes

She’s an empty shell
And it’s just as well
That you missed her call
She’s a hollow vessel
To fill with ethyl alcohol

But when the day gets long
And the night won’t end
Then oh, oh, oh, Danielle
Wants to be your friend

She’s too old for the parties
But you’ll see her there
You’ll know her by the product
That’s in her hair

She’s an unmade bed
And it has been said
That she missed her calling
She’s a low achiever
And they always leave her falling down

But when the day gets long
And the night won’t end
Then oh, oh, oh, Danielle
Wants to be your friend

Oh, oh, oh, Danielle
Wants to be your friend

Gotta Love Logic
Logic rocks man, as I recently upgraded myself. That aside, this is a great tune. I love the groove you have going here. Nice arrangement and lyrics!

sweet discovery
A great title for a start (in fact, it dragged me in). Very nice build up towards the chorus. Everything fits. Love your voice as well. But it's too damned short! I didn't want the song to end so quickly:-( Absolutely great work, Michael.

Logic is an endless road
... and I've only started the journey (in fact, i only got into the 'environment' yesterday, after 3 years! Anyway, great little tune, I love your voice, and the drums work really well (nice contrast with the guitar). Top notch.

Cool tune
Your guitar tone is improving me thinks. This has a "Fountains of Wayne" kind of vibe going on. Very well written lyrics on this one, a story well told. I would suggest would be to make the chorus bigger sounding. Perhaps triple the main vocal then triple each backup vocal and then go with a fatter bass and guitar tone. This would give better separation for the chorus and give it more impact. Nice tune.

Let me guess...
You used one of the Mastering presets on your output channel...It's got that overly loud sound that those presets give you. It's clipping a lot but most contemporary Pop does that so that's why they do that. You can pull down the output channel volume to compensate, but usually I just either remove the limiter or reduce the gain in the limiter. Sometimes you've got to change the compression also. It doesn't sound bad though, it's just too loud.
I am not crazy about the chorus on the guitar and would prefer a more straightforward overdrive on it, but that's just me. Also pulled back a bit in the verse and zooming up in the chorus would be more dramatic maybe and with more of a bubbly churning arrpegiated synth part supporting the verse more than guitar; that would be my arrangement choice, maybe. Really a well written top notch song, though and a nice venture into logic.

Great musical/arranging sensibilities.
Jim Bouchard has some interesting things to say about the clipping/limiting, so I won't. Otherwise I really enjoy everything about your writing, singing, performing and arranging. Even the pop gingerbread touches. Your sensibilities here demand that I dive into your back-catalog immediately!

I dig this track. Love the synths and the hooky
chorus. Lyric is quirky but accessible. It all adds up to catchy. I like your evil pop twin!

Michael,
Sounds fine on my studio monitors. The song is well written and performed. All around professional job. Sometimes when I bounce in Logic I notice it cuts the endings off my songs. Did that happen here?

Has a touch of Gene Clark...
...in the lyric lines and the detailed sense of almost lost hope...

It ends up having a sort of Byrds-gone-Eighties-pop vibe to it.... I'm another who likes your voice, and this seems like a good melody for it...

Being too old for the parties myself, this gets me a bit sad, but there it is...

If it was me, I'd get a more natural acoustic guitar sound in there.... I think it'd mesh better, paradoxically, with the synths and synth bass and drum sounds... Prob'ly just my taste...

I think
we all know a Danielle... which is the mark of great lyrics. We're all going, "OH! I wish I could play this for ______!"

I really dig that guitar sound. It's got a great boom box sound to it. I may have to copy that tone!
