The summer of Nineteen-Eighty-Nine
Had a cal-culated pace.
We only had three months of space.

We both knew that we only had so much time
Until the flutes of California began;
That was integ-ral to the plan.

A couple o’ months ago I derived
That you had heard your home state’s call
And that the flutes had taken a fall.

At first you seemed a proof that one could travel in time,
Even now I hear the past in your eyes.
They’re still as deep as when we said our goodbyes. (On that summer night)

We had some lunch and di-vided the time;
You sang me your song and I described mine.
We had a great day but where did we stand?
I think that was when the mystery began.

There are only a few hours in the day
that our lives intersect
And when you’re lonely,
time just doesn’t move.
The universe will end in flame
space itself will collapse,
But as long as time goes on
I’ll wait for you.

In the winter of Nineteen-Ninety-Nine,
My thoughts are spiced with you,
I know you’re thinking too.

But this time there’s no time line
There are days and weeks instead
And the music’s in your head.

When you take a closed set
And you open it to space,
The priorities change place.

Even when our hands had met,
I’d not yet realized;
That I’d forgotten to listen to your eyes. (On that winter night...)

We went to a show with a couple of friends
And left in the middle so we missed the end.
It was snowing so hard it was tough to see,
So we held hands as we walked down the street.

(Repeat Chorus)

@feter - no, the band broke up years ago. This track is part of a project where I'm transferring all the stuff we recorded off the minidisc multitrack files, two tracks at a time, and mixing it down. I think the chapter needs to be closed on all this before I can move on to other music.
