Description
An old English traditional tune played in standard tuning. A quick post to try out my new Christmas present (a very nice Christmas present from my wife who understands why husbands need more than one guitar).

Hi Fetter
It has indeed been a while - work has been getting in the way of recording but I hope to make more time to contribute more to MJ (both posting, listening and commenting on others). Happy New Year to you and thanks very much for your comments.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the feedback on the recording. I've just started to improve the sound in my spare bedroom "studio" by hanging a blanket over the wardrobes and chucking cushions around and was pleasantly surprised that it does give a better recorded sound.
Thanks for taking the time to listen.
All the best
Steve

Hello John
Thanks for listening. The guitar is a Gibson Songwriter DLX Custom. I love the guitar's look, feel and sound. It's got one of those Fishman pickups which according the advertising promises pro-studio quality recordings..... well OK, it's much better than an old style piezoelectric pickups, but even the cheapest entry level SE Electronics SE1a microphones I used here give a better recorded sound. I've never used acoustics plugged in so it's no big deal and I'm over the moon with it for tone and playability.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks Ken
This is actually a tune I first heard and learnt from a cassette tape by a player called Michael Raven in the early 80s (the tape was ancient then!). I haven't heard his version for years but if I'm honest it is the basis for this version. If Jimmy Page can get away with borrowing Bert Jansch's arrangement for Blackwater Side for Led Zepplin's Black Mountainside then I'm hoping I can get away with this!

Lovely tone and lovely playing, but much too short for such beauty. Thanks for the d/l.

Guitarist to check out
Hi Steve
Mr Hackett is in fact Steve hackett, one time guitarist with genesis in the 70's but solo since then. He plays in lots of styles but his acoustic stuff is a bit like this.

Love playing acoustic guitar especially in open tunings (CFCFCF being my favourite). Every so often I’ll have a go with my electric guitar and even more rarely try to sing. Fan of Bert Jansch, Beatles, Ralph Mctell, Mark Knopfler, Nick Drake etc. ... [see more]
