Description
John asked me to take a crack at this song and I was like "ok" even before I listened. I was so impressed that I got a little worried. He is humble but I have to say I love this song. It was an honor to work with him.

Lyrics
who should I want to be
when do i start telling the lie
what should it mean to me
Ive lived my life standing in line
why didnt let me know
im marching
why wont let me go
i follow
im begging to call your name
im bowing
its probably just a game
im dying

the answers are magical
they're almost emperical
in design

We choose
To never let go
We armour our souls
In the foxholes of faith

how many must you take
my brothers are all falling around me
there must be some kind of mistake
please put me back where you found me

dear jon Im gone
never had a reason to lead you on
Im up here in my lawn chair
with my tasty lazy daze
Im going crazy
quit calling my name
Im going crazy
I cant do nothing for you

We choose
To never let go
We armour our souls
In the foxholes of faith

i'm calling your name
is it you who's to blame
i wanna look at your face
who's to blame

your willingness
to collaborate so freely (and easily) personifies this site. You take an odd progression and make it sing, I can only offer my gratitude and express my desire to move to Northern Cal :-) lol...Seriously creative Gaylen, You use your voice and the backing arrangements as expertly as any instrumental virtuoso. Hope we can do some more

What a creative mix
This has "performance" piece written all over it. With the jazz feel and the powerful vocals - I can see this as being an amazing song live, as well as the top notch recording you have here. So much going on in such a unique blend, the visual would be icing on the cake.

Sensational!
Wow, this wonderfully-engineered and -performed piece takes the listener on many unexpected twists and turns -- all of them very pleasant on the ears.

I particularly like the big, open soundspace on this recording; the jazz riffs, the piano! The vocals fit this mix very, very well.

I like the groove at the end so much that I wanted it to go on for at least five more minutes! Would you please do an extended version of this song? ;-)

Great collab guys.

Great Colaboration
Great dynamics. It builds nicely and then ebbs in places drawing the listener in deeper. Great drums, bass, and piano. I love the way it gets all bluesy at 1:51 and then lets loose the modern jazz funk on the piano solo. More great piano at 3:03. Great vocal performance. I'd like to hear the vocals a bit dryer. There sounds like an ever so slight phasing or chorus on them. Great collaboration!

Dark Vocals
What a outstandingly arranged and composed song.
Your vocals a too pure for the effects you are adding to them (or is it the mic?)
A unique quality you have, to your vocals.
I love that piano solo at the end . . .

The other jazz-rock
Love the mix of Gaylen's vocals, the piano, the drums! Amazing. The jazz tinged piano is a great foil for the rock vocal sound.

Impressive performance - well done! I really dig those backing vocals - very unique. Oddly enough, to me they almost add a sense of macabre to the piece. It is something Jonathan Davis would do, yet your performance is still very original. The musicianship is stellar, and the piano solo is VERY cool! I really enjoyed listening to this - thanks!!

speechless
What a great suprise to hear this one. Such a mix of styles, definitely kept me interested throughout.

The vocal styling on this is it's own, but can't help but bring to mind echoes of of Donald Fagen, Kurt Elling, Joe Jackson and others which escape me at the moment. Create some very nice energy.

DWL must be loving the background vocals on this one, reminds me of some of those 60's/70's broadway productions like Hair etc.

Also loved the modaling piano lines interspersed throughout.

What a treat this was.
