Description
So, I played. I didn't read any "destructions". I made this with 6 loops.
It is the first use of the garage band software and it was, actually, fun. Surprised the hell out of me. ( I can't play anything.)

:)
I see some beginnings here. I'm not too specialized in Jazz but this is decent. There's some nice dis-harmonic stuff in there. It's a little short but I like short songs! Nice bass line!

sounding sweet!
judicious use of spaces in the phrasing and bass shots, tight and classy lines. That piano shouldn't be panned though. maybe use some stereo-producing effect instead, if you want to give it a "panned" feel.

So, the piano should be in the middle, at 0?
Thanks. I have no idea what I'm doing. :)

Now HERE we gooooo!
Bwahaha.... She's starting to make her OWN music... excellent!

So cool, makes me bop in my chair! It sounds like you're already getting the hang of parts of GB, even without the destruction manual. There are all sorts of fun things tucked away in that program as you play with it, you'll find them... sort of like finding little gems on each level. I would agree that the main melody line (the piano) should probably be closer to the middle (0) for those of us with headphones on, but other than that, you're learning how to get those loops to do what you want, and that's a big learning experience right there! Welcome to making music, Cuz! WOOOOOT!
ttfn,
Drakonis

Who has time
to get with "Manual" when a song wants to get made. I couldn't find tools so I plodded along using accidents. It doesn't sound like a car wreck, though. Thanks, cuz. :)

Yay!
ooh you kept this quiet you sneaky sneak .. :o)
GB is great fun and before not too long you'll be a whizz I'm sure. This is fine .. just read up on "panning" .. 0 is "centre", minus numbers is "off to the left" and plus numbers is off to the right. Try duplicating the entire piano track (under Track) and put the panning knob of one track to -32 and the other +32 .. then hear/compare the difference to a single track at "0" .. or widen it to -40/+40 or narrow it: -15/+15 etc. You can "place" any sound in the "stereo field" this way, or balance between different instruments: watch your meters for volume (db) so they are even (or the mix will sound heavier to one side).

Next you'll be adding effects to those loops, fading out- moving the end marker etc etc.

Keep at it.

Hi, Alan,
I played with the knobs. I picked + and - numbers I liked. ( I figured that was the panning I'd heard about.) But I didn't know piano should be at 0. I couldn't find volume and didn't see meters. And, I didn't know where any tools were. I used one loop to chop others. I played. Thank you..I appreciate it. :)

Hey I know that loop ....
... as you and I spend copious quantities of time listening to every loop in the catalogue ... we will eventually find our favourites ... whoooo hooooo you are on your way babee !!!! I'm still in the "where's the manual" stage myself .... but as you mess around with it all - it does start to become familiar ... I am taking the approach of not trying to do too much at first - just get the loops in there for starters ... then when that part is comforable - start messing around with them and manipulating them - have you found the "GREEN" ones yet ????? Hahahaha they are the most fun - ask DRAK about the Green ones ! Congrats on your first post - ya done good!

yeah
nice job. now that you see how easy it is, you're off to the races. as for the piano, you typically wouldn't pan as it is in stereo, so the right side of the keyboard comes out the right speakers, and the low end comes out of the left speakers. you're off to a great start. now you can experiment with dropping instruments in and out of the mix (like the drums); the mute button is your friend. i'm so excited for you, i look back fondly to a few years ago when computer recording was a huge mystery. sounds great.

Aha!
Your first composition with loops? Tis a fine start. Keep experimenting. I sense a good ear and a love of music. The computer has allowed all of us to go beyond what we can be as a single contributor. It allows many of us to finally take those ideas out of our head and express them somehow. Go for it!
