Lyrics
All is broken, I’ve awakened and I’ve seen the “light”,
It’s a furnace, hot and licking, every wound in sight,
Pain and suffering, broken spirits winding through the streets,
Every sinner, every straggler staring at their feet,

Ignorant... To the world I see... Impotent, I cannot change a thing...

As I walk on, I see wreckage and those walking through,
It’s a pity, arms are hanging, flames are licking boots,
Is it hopeless? Can’t I change this? Is there something to do?
Thoughts are spinning, it’s all growing, helpless I walk through the..

Ignorant... To the world that I see... Impotent, I cannot change a thing...

I only watched it fade away,
There was no time to stop the change,
A split second and it was gray,
I only watched it fade away...

Full of despair, I fade away,
To find a place, To hide in safety,
Full of hatred, I feel a fear,
It’s come to this... I know how to get away..

No fool can say that he would hold his ground,
I’ve tried to stave this off but there no way out,
The choice seems simple now how can I not have seen?
I’ll lay down forever and finally have sleep...
I will remove myself from this the realm unseen,
I’ll walk away from this and finally have peace,
The choice seems simple now how can I not have seen?
I’ll lay down forever and finally have sleep...

I'm Not Usually a Fan
of this type of metal, but the production value and mastery alone makes it extremely impressive. The nylon string and acoustic guitar section are extremely well done.

Compression...
I actually have an unmastered version of this track that you can listen to here: http://soundcloud.com/aethereal/suicide-hymn-unmastered — You'll hear that it's just not as loud. What the multipress does is basically it's a four band compressor that allows you to lift things and control which sections of the song get compressed in which way. That allows you to have more even compression across the board.

The big complaint about multiband compression is that it lifts it waaay crazy loud at the cost of sound quality. The argument is this: the listener has a volume knob and can turn it up. It's true that when records get super compressed they lose some of their peaks and valleys. Anyway, GarageBand has no multiband, in this case programs like Reaper, Logic and Pro Tools have it. I've never seen Sonar. Anyway, Reaper is like pro quality and it's got a free 30 trial and is a 60 dollar license if you don't record professionally. Also, it's super small and perfectly compatible with Macs.

great mix here...
Not my style exactly, though I've heard some of this genre, so I can only comment on mix :-) That said, I really love the acoustic middle section, nice singing voice. I admit that you've been able to actually do the "death metal" scream such that it is more understandable than most. And the guitar writing and playing is quite good! The mix is excellent, given the distorted guitars and drums etc... that's tough to do, so kudos!

Thanks
Yeah, not so many death metal fans on this website. Haha, but I got on here 'cause I record on and love my Mac. :D

Thanks for listening and I'm glad you think the mix is good.

Heavy
Heavy as hell, it blows my head of, but in a good way.. Dig it… Really great mixed, sounds like it have been done in a real studio… Cheers

Done in a real studio...
Yeah, that's the ultimate goal, of course. Doing things in a studio isn't realistic, but with some hard work and with some better equipment (especially the latter) I think I'll reach that place. It won't be as sexy as some of the recording I know and love, but it'll be passable for an unsigned project. :P

Thanks for the props on the mix. Just a few days ago I was getting tons of weirdness in my mix.

Cookie
Monster singing aside, some fast axe work in there.I like the interlude the best, really cool but I think this would be better minus Cookie and more like a Dio type vox style instead, but that's just cuz I hate the Cookie Monster genre, I can however appreciate the work. Good job.

COOOKIIIIIES!!!
Well, I like it. I think it's evocative and extreme. Hence why I record in it. I am no Dio. As you can hear from my voice I have a much more choirboy or folk singer kind of voice. I don't do rock vocals very well and, frankly, since so much of the melody is carried on the guitars then sometimes vocal melody gets more challenging. Think of growls as a rhythm instrument. It works for me. ;)

Thanks for listening.

Dark metal (ok death Metal?) anyway it was a tripy listen, like the change to the acoustic and the Electric keys, nice touch and cool track..enjoyed listening...

Keys...
I love the keys. They work really well, don't they? I've never gone down that road before. Very 70s progish but I dig. I'd call it death metal. But dark metal works. I think at this point I'd just call it epic metal or I could be really silly and call it Epic Progressive Metal of Death!

Killer
My kinda music, it's always great to see Metal the front page. Guitar playing is awesome, and once again I like the way the vocals go from demon to mellow. Thumbs up!

And watch for more. I'm re-working an entire album worth of death metal material. I'm going to be recording about 30 minutes of new material for the fall and I'm going to shop it. :D

Epic Progressive Metal of Death
Yes. Hahaha. Perfect. Sinister stuff going on up until the acoustic break. The break sounds good musically. In headphones the separation between the guitar and keys isn't really helping. Sounds OK when the two acoustics work together, but it would be a better effect to move then toward the center. Just my humble O. The heavy part just rips. Those guitars are killing me. Same crit on the vocal separation at 5:20. Love those chords through there. Nice sequence. Great ending. Ambitious and powerful work.

So right you are...
Yeah, I took a second listen and I just re-mastered the whole thing but don't feel like re-posting it. If you're interested in hearing it you can check it out here: http://www.soundcloud.com/aethereal/suicide-hymn-re-mastered — The drums are higher in the mix, the guitars sound better (though still could stand better tone, but I think that's a lost cost given what I'm recording with). You were absolutely 100% right about panning. Thanks for the input.
