Tuba Man (working title)

Description
This one has been sitting around for a while but I feel it's the best or most interesting of my most recent posts. The inspiration came from listening to an old CD I have of a great band from the 90's. If anybody can name the band that I gained inspiration from you get bonus points!

The song itself is a smorgasbord of samples from different sources and a combination of some custom patches that I did in Reason. The Tuba patch I think was exactly how it came out of Reason.

This will be the last song I post for a while because I'm moving!! I've been trying to sell my house for the past year and a half and my wife and I have decided to rent it out and buy a house closer to our work places. We found a great place with lots of character and lots of room for me to record! Lots of hard floors and high ceilings!

Once I get moved and settled in I'll be able to set my drums up once again and plan on revisiting my roots of alternative music with walls of guitar and live drums. I will still strive to keep my compositions quirky and original but it will be a more even blend of sampled and live instruments.

Thanks for listening to my rambling and once I get moved I hope to collaborate with several of you in the future.

Adam

Not a cover, though - LOL

Quite an entertaining bit, I must say...

Lol
Thanks for stopping by and commenting Harold. Pink Floyd's Money might have been in my subconscious when writing this but it wasn't the inspiration! Glad that you thought it was entertaining!

Cool
That's a pretty real sounding tuba. The melody is very cool. And who would have thought to use it for a tuba feature? The drums and mallet instrument adds to the fun. And just when you think it can't be anymore fun.......you hit us with all sorts of quirky sound effects.

Awesome
I'm glad that you thought this was quirky and fun! I love pairing instruments with each other that you don't normally hear together. For me part of making music fun is finding the perfect combination of what goes to together.

Good luck with your move Adam - glad you guys found a good place to move to, and that you got renters lined up for the house you're leaving - good deal! look forward to more great music from you on the other side!

I wasn't thinking of any recent
band but I did think of Spike Jones. You sound like a toddler who got hold of the pots and pans and a couple large wooden spoons. It was fun to listen to. (Talking Heads? Devo?) :)

A unique piece
This one is a unique blend. It's very nicely recorded as well, a great listen. I also look forward that your move is complete, your plans using live drums and guitars sound very promising. Best of luck in the meantime.

Tuba Man
Wow, this is great stuff! This grabbed my attention from the get-go and kept it throughout. It's sporatic and fun and circus-like (which I love)!
MannequinRaces said 3276 days ago (June 4th, 2010)
:)
Glad this kept your attention throughout Tracy! That's always a hard thing to achieve in musical compositions sometimes. I also thought this sounded kinda circus-like!

This is fantastic
I'm going to guess They Might Be Giants, when they're not concentrating on regular songs. They were this wild. Love the tuba melody and the scary home-made noise bank!

Another great guess but no cigar. Thanks for stopping by Eric! Glad you like my noise bank. I'll have to check out the wilder They Might Be Giants music. Any wild songs by them you would recommend?

Great noise collisions!! Everything is incredibly clear in the mix and that tuba instrument is sublime. Isn't Reason wonderful?!!!

Glad you liked this one and thought the mix was clear! Also glad you liked the tube. I wish I knew a real tuba player but I don't.

Yes, Reason is fantastic! Can't wait for the release of Reason 5/Record 1.5. Good stuff!

man
that is so good. could be a lost deerhoof track? whatever, this is super cool. love the horn just wandering through the mix. almost like an old cartoon. can't you see a bunch of clocks and digital appliances rolling around the floor malfunctioning, while a giant octopus in a sailor hat is trying to mop up the mess? springs everywhere. octopus? black octopus? naah, no guitars and I think they only had 1 album out in the 90's. yer killing me. what is it?

congrats on the move. huuuge PITA, but always nice once it's done. love a fresh start.

Howdy!
Hi Michael! What is what, the 'horn' used? It's just a Tuba sound from the Reason factory sound bank. The group you might be thinking of is The Octopus Project. They do mostly instrumentals but use guitar so maybe it's not them.

Thanks for taking a listen. I always enjoy your comments!

Huge bummer about the house... I'm going to have to sell it do to (I'll tell you later sometime). Not fun times right now and I haven't had much chance to work on music.

I will however be releasing a 5 song EP of some of my more popular tunes!

I
Have images of toys coming alive behind closed doors... Toy soldiers marching and playing happily but then being attacked by the cat for those darker moments.
Love the sampling and sounds. Super creative
MannequinRaces said 3172 days ago (September 17th, 2010)
Right on.
Thanks for the great comments! Even though the tuba isn't 'real' I'm still going to use this song as the lead track on my forthcoming EP coming out late Fall / early Winter. Thanks again!
