Chemical Peel

Description
If there is someone out there that is really good at synth and electronica who would like to collab on this song that would be cool. There are open spaces throughout the tune that could use some fills.

I know that this genre is about as popular as a rattlesnake in a bunny factory. Honestly, I really won’t be offended if no one wants to listen or comment. About 99% of the general population is going to think that this is pure garbage and the other 1% (the crazy super freaks of the world) is going to think its A-OK.
Plus, I’ve released three songs in one week; you guys are more than likely pretty tired of hearing all this crap I keep putting out.

There are no loops in this song. The percussion is an industrial kit in Reason that I tweaked a little and programmed. The other gear is:
PRS Mira Guitar
MESA Boogie 5/50 Express 2X12 amp
American Deluxe Fender Precision Bass
PreSonus BlueTube amp for vocals

Lyrics
Chemical Peel

Time the enemy
Wrinkles that I see
Damage from the sun
Cooked and overdone

Eyes are tired and worn
Looks of great forlorn
Spots are prevalent
Youth is surely spent

Chorus
Skin is abraded blistered and scrubbed
Red and beat and lazed and rubbed
Youthfulness lies underneath the old
Flatten and smooth wrinkle and fold

Never age with grace
Chemical peeled face
Scabs and blisters bleed
Satiate this need

Chorus

Remove a decade of grime
Retaliation of time
Under the knife it will slice
To make your face look nice
You need to feel refreshed
You need to look your best
You need to turn the wheel
Get yourself a chemical peel

Take out a big loan
Hock everything you own
Burn off the old you
The last thing you’ll do

Chorus

Whew!
Ya know, it's really weird with my listening background formed by old 30s and 40s records but I've always liked these sounds you did up so well here Eddie (for example, I'd pass on country or disco to listen to Queen and those bands--seriously!) Man, what a ride this was! This is the sort of music that gets the adrenaline going, like none other--I think that is what is unique about it. Ya did great Mike--this is solid!!

Tired of it? Are you kidding? You're like a fountain of heavy music. Keep them coming. Love the main riff. As always, great guitar sounds.

Ah
Another English morning, another email notification of a new fasteddie song :)
I'll be gutted if they ever dry up so yeah keep em coming.
OK! This is great!! The vocal effect is killer man.
The change at 1.52 is tops, especially when the high muted notes come in.
Sounds great as is but I agree some synth would elevate it more. I think i know what you want to achieve but i have no idea how to do it either. Hope someone does.
This rocks man and is one of your best from your rapidly growing impressive catalogue!! :)
Is this the stuff you used to rock out when you were playing out live?
Nice one

Thanks Ed
For always having a listen.

The last band I was in we played together for about 5 years. We were somewhere between metal and grind core. My bass player was a black dude who was a killer low growler. So he and I mixed up the vocals a lot. My drummer played a huge acoustic drum set and raged on the entire kit. I couldn't watch him play because I would get dumfounded and lose my place in the song. My othehr guitarist and I were in bands together for about 10 years. Man we were tight together at the end. It was like we could anticipate each others moves.

Thanks again for having a listen.

Sounds brilliant fun!
I bet those shows were a blast man.
Thanks
mike_d said 3216 days ago (July 4th, 2010)
Heavy as hell!
Love it Mike- to me it has hints of NIN and I can "hear" what you mean about adding synth.

If I can make some free time, I'll mess around with some arps in my sequencer. If I get anything interesting I'll send you an email.

Great track man!

That would be totally awesome! I could even broaden some of the holes if it would help you work some of that mike_d magic.

No rush either. It's not like the song will up and disappear.

Not real familiar with this genre but anything with those slashing riffs and great tone is cool with me! Like those fx. Got a belt sander in there? You rock man, keep 'em coming!

Hi Dani!
Thanks for listening to this crazy zaniness. Hey, I've been putting off growing up until the last possible moment. Glad you liked the solo; I figured it was about time to really burn one off. I'm sure that the last thing on earth you need is a chemical peel.

Guys are lucky, they look better more leathery. Ha ha!

Glad
you think that this is caustic enough to be paint thinner. That's kinda what I was after.

The vocal effect is a "tape saturation" setting on one of the aps in Reason. It's pretty neat. Kind of a NIN vocal effect. The hard part of that ap is the eq is thrown off a bunch when its applied.

Peeling
off the old habits

off the old habits? Always a good idea! Now we are getting somewhere, this is what I'm talking about! This is a good example of stepping out of your box again. As long as you can keep people guessing, they wont glaze over when they see yet another eddie post. This has some serious post punk/industry sound to it, I think the vox fx are a great touch, really adds a new twist to your usual formula. Keep the experiMENTAL Metal train rollin!

for having a listen to this wackiness.

This one was tough because the drum programming had to be different. I couldn't use the same patterns as an acoustic kit.

I like everything you post man! Guess I'm a crazy super-freak. Sigh...

The lyrics are at once both disturbing and hilarious. Percussion track works well. Going lo-fi on it was an inspired choice. The solo kicks ASS!

Yup. Good stuff Michael. It's good to shake up the status quo once in awhile. Ha ha...

Be well bro!

for having a listen. This was a little different for me. I like it because of the heaviness the caustic percussion affords it. I'm glad you liked the lead guitar work! That's a lot comming from an axe weilding madman yourself.

jesus michael. you should have been around in the seventies....this would have been a punk sensation. some of the lyrics don't scan very well especially in the chorus....i think that's an area where you often sell yourself short, and it sticks out because the instrumentation and mix is always top-notch. anyway, that's easily remedied...you just spend more time on the lyrics! anyway, this is fucking excellent...and i'm going to show my appreciation doubly.

I'm glad you liked the song. It was a little different but I've always really liked industrial music its just something that I have limited skill in.

I'd like to broaden that which means that I will have to do some more experimentation in Reason.

I'll start paying attention to lyrics. You'll see! Ha!

for having a listen. It was hard to place this into a genre. I was considering "hard core" as well. I tried to keep most of it repetitive and mechanical sounding. However, I just can't write a song like Ministry that just goes forever with the sam lick. I get bored too easy so I have to vary it.

mike_d gave me some really cool synth parts to incorporate into this song which will make it sound like a better fit into the genre.
