I like this
What a fat cat with the most beautiful eyes.

You have captured the grace and ease of a cat's movement through its domain perfectly in this piece.
I have always had a dog in my life and I can't at this point imagine not having a pet to complete the family. I just don't like the fact that they can't be with us longer.

you got it. our dear kitty is gravely ill and will likely not be around too much longer. that's an old photo, she has lost about half her weight since that time... the upcoming event, whenever, is the emotion behind this song

thank you for hearing

Touching
Emotion is almost tangible. Musically this is such a great track, captured me all the way, having nothing else than a piano. Great talent Bill.

On a separate note, sorry to hear about Samantha's condition.

VW...
the tender ...longing of this tune would have brought a catch in the throat ... but to know the inspiration brought a tear. I understand the journey you are on. sadly over the past 4 years i have had to say good bye to 3 of the best friends you could ever want. so a quiet moment to remember ...ozzy, owen and oscar. if those guys are not waiting for me in heaven...i don't want to go. lovely work Bill.

Beautiful, Bill
It is, to me, amazing that these little, furry creatures can become such an integral part of our lives and can leave such enormous holes in our hearts when they leave. This is a lovely tribute to your friend. Thanks.

Nothing evokes emotion like a well played piano. Well done. It's hard to imagine life without that constant companion.

Bill
very well played and inspired. I like the improvisational quality to this. I like what Jack wrote... so I think that in heaven there are no more tears... so if that means our favorite pets have to be there for that, then Samantha will be there.

'Make' as my cat was,( 'English White' I believe) and she lived to be 20. This is lovely and though subdued, it's so full of reflection and tender love, which I fully understand, regards M

For My Dear Samantha
I really like the 2nd theme beginning at 1:15 and the one at 2:32 as well. This is beautiful. It's a healthy thing when one channels sadness into creativity.

Samantha is so soulful
you captured her spirit and feline grace wonderfully here Smokey. Of course I've never met Samantha - but she must be exquisite to deserve such a thoughtful tender performance and composition. The change at 2:45 is fantastic. Nicely done.

breathtakingly thoughtful
hesitant keys cause me to hold my breath throughout. Such soulful playing. Cats, like the dragons of Pern, have a synaptic connection with us humans. Samantha has enjoyed her time with you I am sure.

i can very much relate....having put down our tortoise shell ~ Sophia Rose months ago....

A heart rendering experience at best.....and the tranquility of your piece conveys this rather poignantly....my thoughts are with you.

Dear Samantha
Heartfelt and dreamlike light. A long improvisation telling a story, speaking your heart, through the piano.
I know of only another man that could sound like this and he used to give concerts in Koln.

A beautiful tribute!
Geez Bill, I'm sorry to hear that Samantha is not going to be around much longer. I've been through that with two different cats: a Tom by the name of Smokey Bob (a runt who was a good friend and a magnificent scrapper), and Lady Grey (another runt who always tried to "pay her way," and who---when her mother died after bearing a litter of kittens---took over for her mother and raised and trained her younger sisters and brothers.) Noble souls both! This tune actually made me miss them...

Well done brother!

Take care!

This is some very nice flowing here. The chord changes are amazing, I like it when it is unpredictable but yet makes sense, which is exactly what you did. Thanks for nice listen, enjoyed!

Sorry I had
missed this Bill, I just got a call from my mom last night that a cat I had gotten them/my daughter when she(my daughter)was little 13 years ago, passed away yesterday, very sad. Really a very heartfelt beautiful piece!

The sincerity of your phrasing
makes your playing transcendent here--that and the unpredictable chord structure--a lot of really nice moments. I don't think I could ever write something so touching for my cat...which I mean as a compliment!

Samantha Update
our kitty is still with us, despite several disasters. her hyperthyroidism seems to be under control now, and the GI issue that led to vomit and poop all over the house seems to be under control now as well...

her old behaviors are returning, and she seems to be more like herself, catching her favorite playmouse to present to us, purring and hanging out with us again. oh, and demanding food, which is very good indeed.

Did Sam play this, too?
The halting cadences suggest a cat walking up and down the keys. How cool would that be!? I like the gentleness of this number a whole lot. There is absolutely nothing pretentious about this composition: straight from the heart and carefully performed. Thoughtful and introspective. It is the kind of piano number that I can listen to over and over again and never get tired of. Glad I caught this (even at such a late date.)

.
this was mostly improvised. there were only a few tweaks to the recording. i guess the halting works well here, and i did partially intentionally let the moments flow during the gaps, but it also covered for my grasping on what to play next... many factors were welling up during each pause, perhaps the time of the next note encoded something about the flood of thoughts and feelings that welled up each time?

thanks
